Philip Coppersmith

Learning about Volbeat & how all 2010s Butt Rock is poorly aping Killswitch Engage.

nathan roberts

Hearing the song “fast” by lit and them sounding like rascal flats, so great

Michael Madia

My highlight was finding out that everybody wants to be the sister's mister

I am the Table

1. The comment that touch, peel, and stand will still be playing on radio's after you die. 2. Sticking your head out of a car window and hearing Metallica's enter sandman 3. The evolution of LIT 4. Theory of a Deadman

Dave Scoular

Fast by Lit is an easy #2, but that Scott Stapp "Marlins Will Soar" was such an unexpected treat of awful music that it has to be my favorite moment.

Thor

I kinda want Bryan, Alex, and Tony to do a full miniseries on Lit just like the Kid Rock series.

Skelepuzzle

Volbeat is one of the worst things I've heard in my entire life. I didn't even know they existed. Also "fasshht"

Scott H

You playing the keyboard opening for "Why Can't This Be Love" over and over again.

Mique Doggie

Realizing that it wasn't going to be deep drives into specific bands like shocktober format but a dissection of shitty music in general. Also Bryan and Alex declaring things Butt or not is really funny.

WET ☭

That Heartland Rock is 80's Butt Rock

Manny Tenorio

i love that i haven't even finished the series yet, but know exactly what "Cindy Lou Who is butt" is going to refer to. this is the best

spencer toth

Eddie Vedder's "You Know My Name" (Casino Royale theme)

Matt

I felt bad for Bryan getting laughed at for genuinely presenting something that he liked to group. I felt that in my soul. That being said I, too, laughed.

barry

Bryans insistence that Nickelbacks cover of The Devil Went Down To Georgia was good and Alexs reaction to that as well

Amit Bhaumik

That weird "won't you touch me, touch me" days of the new voice has been stuck in my head for weeks now.

Christopher Webb

I’m stoked to finally have reference for a lifelong music question. Its been fun to be able to convince so many friends that certain bands are “butt” now due to the discourse. Also, the realization that all Christian rock is basically butt. The dynamic between Alex and Bryan is also cool, hope to see some more collabs in the future.

Dan Watkins

Hands down, the Nickelback “Devil Went Down to Georgia” cover. That had me crying in my car laughing.

Clemmo

Oh they're massive here in Europe. They might be the most successful Danish band. They try to do a mix of rockabilly and metal and are mediocore at best at each genre. Nonetheless. Saw them live like 10 years ago and the singer is one of the most likeable front men I've seen.

Keith Swetland

I’m obsessed with Nickelback “She Keeps Me Up” now. Very wild song and music video.

SpiceBoy

"Leeettts pleeeyy ball it's GAME Deeeaay. We want strikeouts, base hits, doooobul pleeys."

Kirk Robinson

The evolution of Lit is kind of shocking. I had no clue. I mean, it's jarring.

Milton

"Devil Went Down To GA" was the best.

James Browning

"Marlins Will Soar" by Scott Stapp! Unintentional comic gold.

Jeannette

Obviously I loved Alexander giving Bryan shit for The Devil Went Down to Georgia. I really enjoyed Brett's episode because he's so positive. He makes you feel good about liking a little butt from time to time. Ego death has made him incapable of feeling shame regarding music preferences.

Mack Fuller

This entire series was a fun and painful time warp through my past. Touch feel stand , was a shock to the memory bank.

Joe

Hearing the chorus of Tear Away by Drowning Pool. Reminded me of the "official songs" of early 2000's WWE events.

Minion Death Cult

Realizing that Offspring’s Come Out And Play is about how minors should be tried as adults was such a beautiful moment of affirmation for me

Minion Death Cult

Bryan coming out of left field with the Devil Went Down to Georgia cover was incredible, Brett nailing it with how this is music for dudes who got married or had kids too young, and just getting to show the world a bunch of terrible music in general warms my heart, and I love all the responses

Mr. Lobotomy

Yarling, like when Creed sings "cumbersome" or Volbeat sings "bliss"

Sean Conard

The entire Popov Brothers journey was a story I didn’t know I needed, including whatever awful OC bar it is they own. Also I loved the discussion of American empire being reflected in this music, starting with shit-for-brains John Mellencamp

Jackie Marlowe

This show was the first time in 20+ years that I allowed myself to admit that "What If" by Creed actually rips Also loved the story Bryan told about the guy at work who would switch between the butt rock station (the Blitz, I'm guessing) and the country station. I used to live in NW Ohio and that butt rock / country crossover existed there like I've never seen anywhere else But the Theory Of A Deadman interviews and Killing In The Name cover stole the show

Slob Riker

Does garbage count as butt rock? Stupid girl is kind of butt

Aaron D

Bryan roasting Alexander's love of Lit was a great counter-punch to Bryan getting absolutely torched for Nickelback. Alexander singing Lit's Ziploc Bag. Tantric/Days of the New discussion made me remember songs I wish I hadn't.

Gabriel Klemick

Fast and laughing at the Volbeat guy's voice. Buttfest has been amazing

Fellow Worker

Bryans thinking that cover of devil went down to georgia is probably no. 1 but the Volbeat voice nearly had me in tears

Alexander Silva

Alex bringing in "Bitch Came Back". I have always pulled that song up to showcase the pinnacle of the worst buttrock, it never fails to get a bewildered belly laugh. I always felt alone in carrying the burden of knowing this song and glad to see someone else hate-preciate as much as I do.

Robert Miles

i heard theory of a deadman “hate my life” on the nothing but rock station coming home from work really early one morning and i was floored by how shitty and horrible it was, but i never heard who sang it, just heard the song as part of a block. i’ve spent 13 years trying to figure out what the fuck that song was and what terrible band i should spend the rest of my hating for writing that terrible piece of garbage. i fucking hooted when Bryan put on “Hate My Life” and i heard that iconic first line “i’m so sick of hobos”. solved a 13 year puzzle for me, because brother let me tell you googling “weird angry rant about like homeless people or something LYRICS” does not yield any kind of results.

Robert Miles

“this is music for people who had their first kid when they were 20”, Bryan repeatedly and maliciously playing that horrible Van Halen song, Brett and Bryan getting mad at Alexander for not understanding the difference between Motley Crue and Warrant over the course of two separate episodes, Alex constantly referencing cool music like Man Is The Bastard and Integrity, this was just a fun series.

Dave Scoular

I saw them live a few years ago and they spent a whole lot of time talking about "real rock and roll", but they did generally seem to be a fun presence on stage. I couldn't tell you any of their songs.

Thor

Plus they're drama staples of SoCal, the stories Alex and crew told on That Awful Sound about Lit's bar is dumbfounding. Can you imagine the terrible Post 9/11 interviews they probably have?

Chase

The 2010s episode, and the Lit example in particular, was really interesting for how it opened me to the idea that maybe Butt is actually a higher-level category, of which Butt Rock is maybe just the most noticeable sub-genre. Like, that Lit stuff just sets it off. Because it's definitely country music, which kinda makes a Butt Rock classification difficult, but it still checks off basically all the qualifications of Butt Rock despite not being rock.

streetfightradio

The ziploc bag moment was hilarious, especially because it took until the very last line for Bryan to be like "Ok I know that one it's a hit."

streetfightradio

This show has roots in us ruining a party by blaring the first Creed album on New Years Eve 2020 and everyone getting really into it.

Mcjibbs

I say yes to both. Butt is overarching. Like you said with the arena/bro country is just butt rock with the put on twang voice. Horrorcore like ICP and such is butt rock with an 808 machine and put on gravel voice. Imagine Dragons and such are butt rock that gets pop radio play. You have stepped on a truth here.

Mcjibbs

Having Bryan listen to the bad Flyleaf songs after hearing one of their only good ones was pretty great. I want him to listen to parts back to back to find out why we (my age group) were sad when Flyleaf turned out to suck real bad. I'm So Sick was good, Fully Alive was alright, and then getting slapped with the trash of All Around Me and the rest of that album helped be a small part of why people stopped buying whole albums.

Mcjibbs

WWE is totally still using butt rock for all their songs. Hell, I didn't know Halestorm was even still around until they used one of their songs a couple years ago.

SpiceBoy

What makes it even better is that Jim Rome roasted “Marlins Will Soar” by Stapp years ago and you can find it on YouTube.

Robert Miles

theory of a deadman was this series’ mancow. just an ever-blossoming orchid of dogshit.

Jonathan McCarver

When you all tried to listen to Cumbersome and make fun of it but the song was too damn good. You all just sat in reverence unable to resist it.

Holland Rains

The only episode I see on the feed is the 80s. Am I missing where to access them?
