Hachishark

I’ve been waiting for this episode for so long, definitely a favorite. Tanaka doesn’t get nearly as much spotlight throughout the series as the other main players on Karasuno, but he’s probably their most consistent player on offense. He doesn’t have super flashy plays like the others, but very often gets clean spikes and tools off of blocks very well. It’s because of his mental fortitude that he stays playing so consistently, and that’s why it’s so rewarding in this episode to see him when that fortitude is really tested. He’s not as crazy athletic or talented as some of his teammates, but by putting his best effort in, he’s just as valuable a player on the team.

What Kanoka is saying at the end about her heart really having been broken is because she knows Tanaka is straightforward and honest, so him saying he had his heart set on another (Kiyoko) a few episodes ago was him being 100% honest. The whole beginning of the episode is about how Tanaka (for better or worse) really is in love with Kiyoko and how his devotion makes it so that that won’t change. I love Kanoka’s character personally, but Tanaka doesn’t see her the same way she sees him, and she’s now coming to terms with that.
