Not to justify his behavior at all, but I think the latter half of this episode shows why Atsumu calls people trash if they can’t hit his sets; he puts the maximum effort to give you the best chance you have every time, so if you can utilize that, he thinks you suck. He cares about effort a lot and if you’re not matching that, he doesn’t like it at all. Again, he goes about it in a really wrong way but this episode gives insight into why he is the way he is.

Also love the callback of “I’m glad I made it here too” or however the line goes. Just like Hinata saw his potential when he watched Hoshiumi play, Kageyama was inspired by how Atsumu plays as a setter. We have Kenma giving a whole rundown on the technical aspects of the set, and Ukai (who is a setter) stood up to applaud Astumu’s set. Basically every major character that’s a setter and was present made a point of mentioning how impressive the play was.

There are many interesting parallels between Hinata/Kageyama and the Miya twins but I can go into that more another time since it’s 5 am.
