Ngl I was really flustered in my explanation so I did a terrible job getting my point across and wasn’t even completing thoughts mid sentence I was so mad 💀 Sorry about that imma work on it, my explaining has been getting pretty bad recently but for the long rant and anyone that doesn’t get what I was tryna say TLDR: Shirley got hoed more than anyone in the series a million times over imo and wasn’t even the closest to Lelouch (even though they were close) so this whole scene felt like a slap to the face after seeing her already be used as basically a gag for most of the series. I say gag character because aside from a few crucial moments to hurt Lelouch’s feelings she doesn’t even get to do anything important the entire time while knowing that bro is Zero. Almost every scene she’s in is just her trying to confess to Lelouch or get closer to him just for some type of cockblock (usually CC or Kallen) to pop up then she disappears again for the rest of the episode I feel like I would be hurt a lot more emotionally and feel the weight if it was 100% obvious that Shirley was his true love interest and he couldn’t keep her out of harms way but she just isn’t… that’s why I feel her death is so unnecessary especially since she never has anything good happen to her at any point anyways unlike literally the entire cast. This type of thing would’ve hit harder for me if it happened to Kallen or CC (maybe it will in the future but don’t spoil me) because Lelouch lets them in on way more and they know about both sides of his identity as well as his vulnerabilities. So naturally he’s more emotionally involved with them (and because of the authors obvious glazing and bias for CC hinting at Lelouch liking her the most). Also I know he didn’t have Shirley involved because he cared about her and didn’t want her to get hurt but she still just didn’t have enough involvement by his side imo for her to be killed this suddenly as if he’s always around her which he isn’t unlike CC or Kallen. She’s almost always in the background getting neglected for quick laughs until now when the plot needs her most. This would hit way more for me personally if she was allowed to be more involved with the black knights for an episode or 2 like she attempted this episode with her even picking up a gun to kill for Lelouch because she loved him so much. Say Lelouch allowed her in because she knows too much about everything and was so hellbent on joining him. But then it backfires, she dies, and then he regrets ever letting her in and crashes out officially. That would hit way harder imo rather than a neglected character that I’ve been pointing out being neglected and cucked every single episode randomly dying just because the plot needs it for the MC to crash out rather than ANY OF THE ACTUAL CHARACTERS HE’S WITH 24/7 🙃 It can be discussed in the comments but I just have so many reasons why I think this was so foul to do to Shirley’s character unlike when it was more earned with a very praised in universe character like Euphie who got a ton of important scenes with loved ones respecting her before her major death

What I wild episode for me to come to sort of late lmao. You wanna know something crazy? No hate please LOL. I as an adult forgot Shirley died. I didn't remember this, literally at all. I did watch this like 14 years ago or something but I feel like that shouldn't be an excuse. But you know what I do remember? Not liking Rolo. And not knowing why. Anyway that being said I don't think i've got anything to rebut your arguments chief. Maybe this played into my slight distaste for season 2, maybe it didnt. I actually have no clue. Even though they tease being love interests, I've always seen Shirley more like Lelouch's best friend. Like maybe super long term post story they could get together kind of thing. I don't think there is anything wrong with Lelouch's reaction, and don't know if its fair to call into question how close they were. He was trying to keep her safe and ultimately was powerless to do so. I'd crash out too. But from the viewers perspective you are absolutely right. And because she was a "gag" character so often, it lost basically all meaning. Hence probably why I forgot (which I now feel really bad about in retrospect.) But I think your points about her are entirely valid. She was hella underutilized in a meaningful way. She was basically a gag character until the plot needed something to push it forward. And she was likable, which is what makes it more frustrating. Now I am one of those people who claims C.C. is his favorite. I'll be interested to see if I agree with that as this continues, cause clearly my memory has holes in it. But I feel like there is something specific that made me like her, and we clearly havent seen that yet (other than being hot AF and me ~unfortunately~ liking her personality) Anyway. Fuck Rolo. They foreshadowed this shit when he just instant killed that random OP and Villeta couldn't stop him early in the season. Bro's got like no thoughts or forward thinking what so ever.

On a different note, the think with Jeremaih is interesting. Like, I don't hate it. It makes some sense. I actually wish they couldve given that a bit more screen time/stewing. Maybe showed a flashback of him around Marianne or something. Could have definitely felt a little better. He was trying to figure out if this Lelouch was one and the same with the child he knew.

Lowkey just wish they pulled a plot twist like that for any other character bc he just seemed the most left field to do that imo but I'll see how it plays out for sure
