I'd say it's a nitpick for me as well for astushi not using ability after we just seen him use it avoid the sensor detection. Doesn’t hurt the show or the arc for me. But it still feels a bit lazy or awkward in the anime specifically. I wouldn't consider It lazy writing in the manga since the escape is brief and it's more easy to accept, but the anime exaggerates atsushi’s abilities and then doesn’t rewrite the scene to match, which is where it starts to feel lazy. Then again this nigga is dumb at times, so I wouldn't past him to forget he could use his ability in the moment 😭

Atsushi ability is actually unique, in the movie the main antagonist was trying to steal his ability. I was also wondering why didnt he just transform earlier to catch the guy on the cart? my guess he was saving his energy just in case they had to fight fyodor and the gang was already waiting outside the place for the virus guy anyways

I said this at the finale of s2 but, for me I also prefer s2 over s3 mostly because it's build-up and the start of the season wasn't as strong as s2's backstory with oda. It for sure had some fire moments in it though and I I think atsushi’s reason to fight is just very personal rather than flashy. He grew up being told he had no value, so saving people is the first thing that made him feel like his life mattered. It’s not really about the orphanage guy anymore and more about atsushi trying to build a sense of self from scratch yknow what I mean.That said, I do feels it repetitive as the story goes back to that orphanage trauma a lot so that might be why it felt weird to you or rather how you perceived his reasoning for living. What's to come next is for sure the peak of bungo and this build up sets it up. I genuinely do belive s5 is up there as one of the best seasons of anime. S4 is amazing too and I can't wait for you see them. My bad for ranting lmao just wanted to address everything you said.

First of all, leave my wife Yosano alone. You can't handle all that. Second, the powerup from Atsushi and Akutagawa was Akutagawa basically giving Atsushi his power. Which was obvious, but it revealed that Akutagawa's Rashoumon is actually him just manipulating his clothing (which can devour space). Atsushi's ability (and Dazai's ability) have been the only two things that have been able to neutralize it. This season probably had more weight with the movie, it really is just to show how dangerous Fyodor is. Season 4 and 5 are nuts, but warning there is 3 episodes of backstory in season 4.
