They’ll explain why in a future ep but very hard to obtain a national’s trainer licence

Desolane

Acquiring a national trainer license is very difficult and can take 5-8 years (assuming you already have a background in regional racing). You have to pass extremely competitive written and practical exams, complete years of apprenticeship under a licensed trainer and then get officially approved by the JRA.

Details for episode 5 -------------------------- Chukyo Hai 2:49 The Chukyo Hai is still a regional race, it just happens to be taking place at a racecourse that is also used for national races. They didn’t focus on it too much, but they mentioned earlier in the episode that the national races take place on the weekends but that this race was happening on a weekday. -------------------------- National License The national license is notoriously difficult to achieve in real life, requiring many years of experience working with horses. The test can only be taken once a year, and will sometimes only have a single digit number of people pass out of hundreds. Some years do not have any successful applicants at all. Opera O’s jockey, Wada Ryuji, recently passed the exam and will become a trainer soon. -------------------------- The series evolving 25:00 Interestingly enough, the manga for Cinderella Gray actually started before season 2. “Pretty Derby” was excluded from the title since it was supposed to be different from the rest of the series, but as time passed, the rest of the series ended up becoming more like Cinderella Gray.
