(Sorry if this is too long) So from what I could search up, Airi does have her own channel and is going under the name “Kamiya”. Only two songs (don’t believe they’re in streaming platforms) were released with her most recent being 2 months ago. Anyone else is free to correct me on this tho. I doubt we would uncover the actual details into how the decision was made in taking out Airi relatively last minute. Asides from the little in the doc. If I have to personally speculate as to why she was kept for this long, it’s not too far fetched to presume that maybe they really wanted to have XG as 8 and kept her to try and in a way convince themselves that that is the true path to go. Unfortunately and obviously, 7 was what had tragically to result. I do also think there’s more conversation cut out from this episode. Like possibly many talks or extended conversations that either had to be trimmed down or it wasn’t filmed or something. This just goes to show that not even Simon and his company could really escape the brutally of the Kpop system. That being said, I still think Simon and his company is a “better” one than most other Kpop companies, as annoying as it is watching this episode. But I’m kinda glad we do get to see this because we see he himself is flawed and can make decisions like that that had a high chance of failing. Thankfully, seeing the group now, things did work out you could say. And the girls, least from we could tell, harbour no resentment or grudge against Simon for what happened. Yes, It was a huge risk of having Jurin be leader afterwards but, obviously she worked hard to fill in the spot left by Airi and has been just as great. This is also a personal thing since I’ve got into XG, i honestly can’t see where Airi would’ve fit in songs like “Left Right” or “Puppet Show”. No disrespect at all towards her or anything. But maybe I’m just so used to XG7, it’s hard for me to see where Airi would’ve come in without sacrificing the other members “highlighted parts” or lines where it just fits them had it been XG8. As a fan, I’m not gonna hold this against Simon. But it’s clearly something he’s living with for the rest of his life and I do think a part of him does regret not pushing more to make 8 work. Even if Airi did debut as solo, I don’t even think promoting simultaneously with XG could work effectively. Cause the main focus is XG (especially since they’ve been growing more since Shooting Star released) and Airi is too talented to be an afterthought or second to XG. So if she is indeed out of XGALZ, that might’ve been a better decision than if she still stayed imo. I guess this might be why Simon as attached to the 7 as he is; even though he will never, this is the only way he could make up for Airi getting taken out. At least they are keeping Airi’s presence alive, every time they do huddles and whatnot that they still do when Airi was with them. So it’s not like she’s completely erased……. Unlike other companies that take that route….

This episode made me feel some type of way about the industry. Of course I’ve been aware of how harsh the industry is but to see it so raw like this really made me question if I should keep supporting lol I love XG as 7 and I wouldn’t change their lineup but the way Airi was cut left a bad taste in my mouth. If y’all want to see what she’s up to she goes by Kamiya now. I recommend her dance practice video of Finalboss

I’ve heard worst horror stories of those that were like 2 months before debut and cut. It’s not an industry for the weak and unfortunately like Simon said, many don’t realize it until they are in it or see it. I know I’m the type that can’t be in a competitive field of any sort cuz I’d hate feeing at any time I could be cut. I love that we are seeing stuff like this. Airi and the others could have just been an old “I was almost in this group” trainee stories like we’ve heard before but they were given faces(literally) and voices and you see the impact they had/have on XG.

Agree, most companies would have cut that out 100000% because it honestly doesn't make them look good at all. I appreciate it from a transparency standpoint (although I don't think we got the whole story....) but it was TOUGH to watch.

From what I understand and have heard, Xgalaxy actually had plans to debut Airi as a solo artist. The problem is/was, XG was going to take priority, which meant Airi was going to be on the 'back burner' for awhile. She felt the time would be to long, so that is why she left to pursue a career while still in her 'prime'. This is also just 'hear say' with my part, so not totally sure how much of it is true.
