ZKJ Brick’s Mister Mxyzptlk! (Patreon)

This fig was released during my big move with no preorder and I have been dying to talk about it! (thank goodness it wasn’t lost in the mail!) ZKJ over the last few months have been throwing out some banger characters; another being their Kyle Rayner that I’ll be looking at soon, and this one has been my favorite so far!

While this design of Mxy isn’t my personal favorite, it’s still a great choice for adapting! ZKJ basically pulled this straight from the Lego DC Supervillains Video Game. A design that is a sudo-updated look of his from the 60s comics.

While it would have been even better to have gotten a STAS version of the character, this is the next best thing :)

The print itself is pretty straight forward compared to other wild and expensive figs we've looked at in the past. The print quality is also serviceable. The front and back of the torso are perfectly fine in fact. Clearly PAD printed by the looks of things.

But the arms, legs, and even the hat all have this sort of matte ink over them that’s can be a bit jarring. Almost as if these parts have been painted over without any kind of glossy protective coating in mind.

That poorer quality leaves me worried that in ten years or so this ink will start to weather away just from the oils of my grubby little fingers touching it. You can sort of get the impression that this magenta had two coats on the front over the toes, with only one coat one on the sides (now I’m not even remotely sure of ZKJ’s production work, so this is all speculation, but I’ve been around the block a few times and know a thing or two about a thing or two)

Other than that, I really wish we would have gotten a second expression. Or some sparkly accessories. Or ya know… anything else to really improve the collectibility of this fig. But to be fair everything you see here only cost me $50, which in today's world of custom fig collecting is an incredible steal for a rare character like this! 

Bear in mind, this fig sold out within twenty minutes of it being dropped, so it goes to show that the demand for Mr Mxy is there! But ever the greedy shlub that I am, I’m left wanting more. However, for the sake of argument, here’s what he looks like with a few other similar Mxy’ish head prints

Ah well! At the end of the day, I’m still loving what we’ve got here :)
