JakaBrick's Spider-Gwen (v2) (Patreon)
Content
One of Jaka’s earliest custom figs, was a Spider Gwen that for better or for worse, had never really impressed me. But low and behold some three to four years later, they’ve returned to their roots with one hell of an update!
With some amazing texturing work, impressive gradient inking, great custom parts, and perfect facial designs across three included heads, I’m in shock and awe how just how far Jaka has come!
This is some Christo/LifeBrick/LCM level of quality and (I’m gonna repeat it a lot) that the texture work is just so good! Jaka’s design work has been at an all time high in the last few years and this fig is a great example of it, especially when you look at the custom parts!
The headpieces alone are just nuts! The pink gradient going on through both of the hair pieces is just beautiful, and the web pattern work on the inner face of the hood is so clean! Like how did they even do that?!
Wild stuff!
The legs are also impressive with the wraparound shoe print that covers the toes and lines up so nicely that you can follow the laces all the way around the leg and it fully connects back! AND the fact it’s light ink printed over dark plastic with no fading, all so when you put her in cool spider-poses there’s no awkward gaps in the leg design!
Gah! It’s wonderful! I love it! 🤌🏻
Phew… the runaway sentences are bad this time around… must be a good fig :P
Focus Andrew…!
While staring at this fig in awe, I began to wonder if the hand’s were printed at a different time from the arms. You can sorta see how the purple webbing is a bit thicker and darker than the print over the magenta of the hands. It could also just be how it had to be printed in order to get the ink to not rub away?
To be fair, it's subtle and maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me...
Who knows! But when a fig looks as perfect as this, it’s hard not to pick up on some of the unintentional details when a design is this well and meticulously produced. The print here is some of Jaka’s best (until we get to Spider-Punk later in the week; holy cow that’s an intense fig)
I mean the head prints too! Just using the texture-work alone, to then create negative space (with a little bit of white ink) for the eyes! Gah! Wow!
And just check out how perfectly Jaka translated Gwens’ face. Even down to the super subtle eyebrow piercing that’s literally just two microscopic pinpoints of silver. But if you catch them in the right light it looks really cool!
With the impressiveness that is the printed side-cut (in a similar vein to Jaka’s Punisher) the custom hair pairs perfectly with the print. Again, the production design of this fig feels very clearly thought through, because this is just so impressive!
As for those other parts one more time, the dimensional gauntlet is nice and shiny, but even has some red that’s printed well on two sides of the piece! In fact all of the custom parts have some kind of printing to them that are perfectly applied!
The more I photographed this fig, I was worried about the front tips of the hoods breaking. It gets veeeeeeery thin towards the ends, but I never had any problems with them thankfully. Oh and while we’re at it, the fig even looks half decent with an official Lego hood, however I still prefer the custom hood!
Truly, this is a ten out of ten custom fig! It really sets the bar something fierce and does some amazing things for just $110! I’m so impressed!
Just, wow!
