FunnyBrick's Bombastic Bag Man! (Patreon)
Content
With FunnyBrick’s return to the custom Lego collection community a year ago, they’ve been setting up a lot of great preorders for figs with fantastic design adaptations! I am really looking forward to their Dardevil series (but I gotta review the MrJ one first! There's just not enough time in the day!)
Now we’ve already taken a look at another Bombastic Bag Man some time ago, I couldn’t help but pick this one up too! While $110 feels a bit steep for a fig with so few custom parts, it makes up for its pride in the print quality.
The design and cleanliness of this final product really sells this fig to me. I mean just look at the black on the arms! Fully wrapped around, and aligned perfectly. Not to mention they’re even printed on their tips of those arms so there isn’t an awkward blue ring at the wrist where the hand meets socket.
And just look at the belt! It’s the only 360° printed element of the torso, but on the front and back, the fabric cinching at the waist and hips with just a few simple curved lines printed in a complementary dark bluish grey. Simple, but really nice stuff!
My only disappointment in this fig are the bottoms of the feet. Could’ve been nice to have gotten those printed too. I mean if they were gonna print the tips of the arms, then might as well have printed the tips of the legs!
But over all, it's really solid desgin work! And it really looks great next to my MuddyRiverMinifig FF Torsos!
In a bit of a tangent though, I had to try and see what this torso looked like with some other heads, and ya know what, I like it! Makes me wish FunnyBrick would have made the other members of the FF team in this 60’s bright blue style!
Oh also this is a subtle thing that may have not even been intentional, but I love that the tape is printed semi transparent :)
As for the bag piece, we actually got two!
One with printing that I don’t think I’ll ever use unless it’s for random thug figs in the background or something, but the standard (unprinted) element is nice! It’s got some nice straight-lined crimping that feels patternless, plus paper bag seams on three sides that indent much stronger than the crumpled areas. It makes it feel intentional and thought through.
…wow, I’m analyzing the visual components of a paper bag! What am I doing with my life?
I’d say that for the price of this fig, again it’s a bit steep. But for some of y’all that may have missed other releases of this Spider-Suit, it’s certainly one of the better ones out there!
I mean here’s a comparison to TriangleMinifig’s version (with Crystal's Headpiece) and it’s wildly different!
I’ll let you be the judge!
All in all, it’s a fun Spidey variant! It makes me feel glad to contribute to Funnybrick’s return to the custom fig community!
