It’s not an LCM fig if I doesn't come with a warning label :P
Don’t forget people, these are not toys “unless it is necessary” because they’re no longer in their “playable” form, otherwise you should email Chris directly. An email that will never get a response because LCM’s communication is terrible! 🎶
And so is their preorder turnaround! I mean come on! I preordered this fig back in late 2022! Two freakin years ago!!! Needless to say, I wasn’t in a rush to review it when it finally arrived back in August.
But now that it’s here, let me jog my memory as to what I felt about this fig!
I had actually forgotten a few key details about this fig. Most notably the satchel. It’s an interesting choice to print the satchel just right onto the fig. I suppose it’s just one less accessory to worry about for custom production, but what if you want to recreate the scene where Mola Ram and Indy are fighting over his bag? Can’t do it now without things looking janky 🤷🏻♂️
I’m a bit torn about it. It’s a bit of a love/hate (or rather a love/tolerate) thing that I’ve got going on here. While on the one hand it does look great! The stretched-out sag to it’s strap is pretty perfectly replicated in print form. But on the other hand it doesn't match with how any other Indy figs (official and custom) look or operate.
idk it’s a funky choice for sure...
You can toss on an official satchel to cover it up, that looks just fine! But it doesn't work as well with PCB/Abnormal’s though… 😔
As for some other aspects of this design that I’m tolerating... it's those head prints!
Bit of shame we don’t get Indy’s classic toothy grin for an alternate expression. While the “disgruntled exhausted” expression looks great, the subtle shifting of the mouth and eyebrows for a second expression doesn't warrant enough of a change in my mind between these two faces.
We could have gotten a shouting face, Indy in-pain, or even a screaming expression to match scenes from the movie. Like the voodoo doll scene or the minecart chase, but nah. We get a (mostly) neutral face and a sort of embarrassed smirk.
But again, I keep flipflopping here! One thing I really appreciate is the detail for a fig like this! The dark tan ink for sweat stains! The overlap of the shirt printed down over the hips! The little patches of red for blood on the elbow and the face! The bandaged hand! (yall know I love printed hands)
Honestly the design is waaaay better than it needed to be in a lot of places! Like outside of those simple expressions, It’s a well thought through design! Cobalt Customs really did some great work here!
As for parts, I love the old-school fedora with the additional hair added to it! It’s really well produced too! Very clean all around!
It’s so funny to think that this fig went up for preorder back before the official relaunched Lego sets came out. This hat immediately feels like something between the old and new official element in the coolest way possible!
It makes my brain tingle to see it on the old and new official figs. It’s like something out of a different timeline 😵💫
As for a comparison to PCB/Abnormal, it certainly looks more “lego-like” even when you swap it around between the two Indy’s. I think PCB still takes the gold for the better hat design, but I really do appreciate what LCM was trying to go for!
The Sankara stone is also pretty premium stuff, as is the machete!
There's nothing particularly poor or amazing about either part, but they are welcome inclusions for sure! That machete in particular has some great quality production work and is really bright and shiny!
Oh and here I was thinking the Sankara Stone was just printed over an official Lego piece but it wasn’t! It’s a fully custom element!
And one last comparison before I go!
Here’s this new fig next to my original 2009 ToD Indy (yellowed and fading) that I decked out with a custom Brickarms machete and vinyl wrapped hand! I wouldve thought the adhesive would have come undone by now but it's still stickin'! 😆
I mean for $80, this CC/LCM fig is pretty slick! But the two years I waited for this fig was not so cool. So much life has happened in the last two years! Wild that it needed to take so long!
Ah well! It’s still one of the only custom Indiana Jones figs that hit the community and I absolutely love it for that alone! I really shouldn’t complain when such items are few and far between!
So I guess in the end, that makes it all worth it! :)
