GoldBricks / Phoenix Customs Mark V Iron Man (Patreon)
Content
It has been a hell of a long time since I’ve talked about a PCB Iron Man! Feels like only yesterday I was talking about their Mark 42!
There have been some significant upgrades to the last time too! First off, this shiny candy red is just stellar! That application alone is much smoother than PCB’s Green Goblin we’d recently reviewed, produced by Kar.Lor a while back.
That being said, GoldBricks really produced something special here! I’m really impressed!
Even the custom elements have improved since the Mark 42! For one thing, the helmet definition has been refined by quite a margin. If you recall, the designers opted to mold the helmet line work instead of print, and I was pretty underwhelmed by it. But this time around they went with printing! Woo!
The printed lines really help show off what was lost last time around. This is most certainly the better route in my opinion. Not to mention how well it’s printed! I mean just look how crisp those lines are! And look at those bright and shiny white eyes!
If I could nitpick anything, I feel as though the molding of the brow however feels a little rounded and soft. Much more flat to the face than I'd expect. It’s not a deal breaker by any means, but it’s not as sharp as I’d like to see it.
While we’re talking about heads, the Tony Stark faces are also really nice! Makes me regret skipping PCB’s “Racing Suit” Tony of what he’s wearing underneath (still feels like an odd choice for them to have released that fig first before this one… but oh well) PCB again just nailed the look of RDJ in Lego form! They are truly the masters of lego facial designs!
On the topic of print, this fig looks great with or without the cool magnetic shoulder plates. The elements themselves are similar to Abnormal’s The Batman where I first recall seeing the concept realized. The magnet shoulder pads have become a pretty common staple of Lego customizing in recent years. Still, it’s nice to see them well applied to a character design like this 👍🏻
Oh and here’s a little mini review that’s taking place here because I wasn’t able to snag MiniGazer’s Racing Suit Tony Stark… I only managed to get their suitcase 😞
It wasn't worth an entirely separate post so here it is! MiniGazer’s Mark V (before it goes “suit mode”)
It’s actually not that complex of an element in my eyes. But thankfully, the colors match PCB/GB’s fig rather well! It only opens about this far though, and seems to have a stud connecting in there… but since I couldn’t get it open all the way, the world my never know 🤷🏻♂️
It’s size is also interesting! It’s bigger than a normal suitcase, but smaller than the Harry Potter CMF luggage bags. So that’s kinda neat!
All in all though… since I missed out (twice now) getting a Racing Suit Tony, the suitcase is sort of in limbo for my collection… I wonder if I’ll ever use it in a photoshoot…? 🤔
But let’s now get back to the “final thoughts” segment of the show! PCB / GB Mark Five baybeeeee!
That metallic, candy-apple drum lacquer is really the selling point for this PCB/GB fig! It brings that hot-rod aesthetic to the fig that nobody has done better (so far! Haha!) It's really slick for a custom Iron Man! While PCB's recent Superman was a bit of a let down, Phoenix Iron Man figs are always pretty solid! Although I hear Jin is hot on their heels lately to take their place for community favorites!
At the end of the day, I really can’t wait to get a hold of PCB's upcoming Mark VII!
