Isn’t this a treat!

It’s a rare thing to get a custom Flash minifigs! While it’s not a Christo fig, Hades could be a pretty strong runner-up for taking the mantle for the number of speedster minifigs produced! But can they really be the new torch bearers?

Well… Hades did a pretty nice job with these two, but they aren’t perfect 🤷🏻‍♂️

The biggest glaring dilemma I have, is that Hades designed their own Flash cowls so tight to the minifig heads. So tight that I couldn’t even get them on! 😑

Not to mention that the cowl design doesn’t quite blend in with other more “Lego like” official Flash figs (aaaand of course the quality isn’t too great… but we will get to that later!)

I’m sure Hades was thinking of this design concept too, because they did include a red and yellow one just so you can swap for a standard Flash, but this cowl didn’t fit either so… not even sure what the point was in the end 🤔

It makes me wish Hades would have produced a proper red/yellow Flash suit variant we haven’t gotten before! Like a thick belted Carmine Infantino esq fig or something. But so it goes, they did not.

It’s interesting to get new Flash figs that are suit variants Christo “made famous” for us Lego fans (depending on who you ask)

Dark Flash in particular is an interesting one because while I absolutely love Christo’s fig, this new Hades one had the potential for a lot to love even if the non-fitting cowl isn’t accurate to the source material. I mean the whole point of that 90s suit was to look more dramatic and give off Batman/Stunt Motorcyclist vibes. So that’s a miss on Hades part

But the printwork is nice! I mean get a load of that wrap around 360° applications! Nice shiny silver ink too!

(I really feel like I’m really digging for something nice to say about this fig, because OOF... that cowl was just... not good…)

I’m not sure if it’s just due to general degradation of the 3D resin, but that silver ink has just flaked right off this cowl. Part of why I didn’t feel the immediate rush to review these figs was seeing this very unfortunate flaw when finally handling them in person

Even after I cleaned it… nothing could remove the staining 😔

Again, the minfig body design on the whole is good, but just about everything else was a let down unfortunately (shame about the off-color dark red hips too)

BUT!

The other fig that was sold with this two-pack, was the Frank Miller (Dark Knight Strikes Back) Flash. Don’t get me wrong here, I love the look of this costume, but that’s a weird book, dude. Don’t read it! Or anything else’s Batman Frank Miller after the DKR series because… WOOF they are not good 😬

But this fig is certainly the better of the two we're looking at today! 👍🏻

While the cowl again was too small without risking damage, but at least it wasn’t produced as poorly!

Much cleaner on the inside, no rogue ink. Everything else about it though is pretty solid! ...except for the fit.

As for the minifig, the yellows and fleshy inks are opaque over black plastic, and the overall design translation is good (albeit a little stiff when compared to the source material)!

This suit I think technically has the emblem on the back as well…? Or this could just be Frank Miller’s lack of QC consistency in his panels… idk, but here’s that one panel showing it that’s making me question my memory of a book I’m not even sure I finished reading 🤷🏻‍♂️

Regardless, it’s pedantic at best and I’m happy that Hades opted not to include it on their own fig!

It was $140 for the pair back when I ordered them in Feb 2024 (yes they’ve been here on my desk for several months now don’t worry about it). Or $70 if you wanna split them up.

Just like the last Hades Flash fig we took a look at, the potential was there, the designs were good, but the production quality nixes the excitement for me.

So it goes, I suppose.

So it goes 🤷🏻‍♂️
