MrJBrick - Comic Mysterio Add-On's (Patreon)

I was lucky enough to get this lil fella through Kraahl (that new second hand hosting site produced by ParisCustoms) for about $100!

And ever since it arrived, I am stumped as to why I skipped this back when MrJ launched them! Could have been the steep price tag of $50 for just some limbs and a cape that turned me away…? It came out around the same time as their Jean Grey that also used weird rendered images to sell the product, so that might have been a factor?

I think it’s design is where the intrigue comes into play for me!

All these elements are intended to be paired with an Official Lego Mysterio torso from the OG Danish brand. The official brand that’s ironically known around the community as the folks with the most disappointing print quality.

So for an Official Lego torso to be the center some high quality premium custom fig parts was an interesting choice! 

At the time, it was a rather new idea. It’s an interesting practice that has taken hold to a number of brands. Most notably PCB, ChipChip, BrickBangers, and more as of late.

For me, the whole DLC concept of paying the full price of a custom fig without actually getting a full custom fig was a turn off. But look who’s laughing now that I spent twice what I should have to finally get one! 🤷🏻‍♂️

At any rate, I finally got one! :)

For a product that was released a couple years back, I’m not seeing its age! Parts are well printed! The custom elements are clean! And most importantly, everything looks to align correctly with the Official Lego torso! Phew! 😮‍💨

Shame about the #IncompleteLegs... most notably those unprinted inner boots...

Outside of the print, those gauntlets are great, but the cape’s a little stiff. I feel like I say this a lot, but including a secondary “action” posed cape would go a long way! But hey! At least it’s shaping is nice and it doesn't look like a pillowcase!

MrJ also made a second color variation on this fella that was a magenta cape, with gold gauntlets & boot print, but frankly I like this look a bit better tbh. Besides, I can use an official magenta cape and get close enough to the look like this!

It’s good stuff, all things considered! Glad to finally have it in the collection! :)
