UG’s OG Thanos! (Patreon)
Content
First off, I gotta say that this is a great translation from book to minifig! It’s simple, effective, and the custom elements are fantastic! But hey, let’s get into the nitty gritty of it all!
Now I mentioned it in the last post, but one thing I’m not the biggest fan of, is how the helmet sits in relation to his head print. Most commonly, Thanos’ eyes are just barely peeking out of the bottom of the brow of the helmet, but (and maybe this is just me) that height between his weird red eyes where the brow of the helmet begins just looks goofy.
You’ll notice that I took the time to change both of these attributes in one of my final images :P
As far as the other custom elements are concerned, they’re great! :)
His neck pauldron is wonderful, and the Infinity Gauntlet is stellar! One thing to note is that it’s sadly not interchangeable. Or at least it’s not ‘easily’ interchangeable. The dowel of the piece is far larger than the standard Lego hand, and Thano’s specifically has had his arm hollowed out slightly to accommodate this. It’s a shame because I would have liked to have been able to swap it around from time to time… Oh well!
One last thing that I should probably address though, is the UV Black Light aspect of some of these newer figures that customizers have been pushing. It’s a neat idea, but I don’t know if a character like this really needed it compared to say MinifigsFactory’s recent Black Panther.
Also given the fact that this effect was only applied to the torso and not the rest of the figure or the custom parts, tends to drag the idea down... or at least to me personally.
But yeah, he’s a solid figure over all! UG did a great job with him! :)
