This was a very ambitious project for me to take on, but I tackled it with the help of that big dumb official diner set from a few years back… but you all know I had to put my spin on it ;)

I took a lot of time to modify the original 2018 Downtown Diner set to create my scene. The biggest and probably not so obvious change was extending the build’s width and depth by close to 10 studs in some places. I also was very conscious of swapping out some of the brighter and more saturated colored pieces with stuff a little less flashy.

Not to mention that I dropped the entire “Greasy Spoon” motif on the interior, for more of a “Soda Bar” environment by taking the big hood and stove assembly (which in the original kit was built straight into the wall) and replacing it with c02 canisters for soda, a fridge, and big wooden shelf.

Those changes came from the intent to allow the color from the figures to pop more than the build. The added size and space made for an easier shooting experience, as well as more room for blocking (like to make sure you can see everybody and no fig was in the way of one another)

I did keep a handful of the original 2018 built elements like the jukebox and main bar layout for example, but then completely re-did the furniture like the tables and booths to something more akin to my old Bilateral Symmetry photoshoot ( https://flic.kr/p/KttQ5q )

I even built in the front wall to be removable to shoot interior shots, but I uh… I never ended up utilizing it (whoops, oh well) :P
