Similarly to my Green Lantern Origins post from a few weeks back, this too was another ancient project from my ever shifting vault of ideas! Mostly because I’m trying not to burn myself out and just keep the cogs spinnin and have some fun with simple projects like this.

A majority of this comes together in the edit, so if you really wanna see where all the magic happened, check out yesterday’s post! ;)

Anyway, long story short, I took my first crack at this comic cover back in 2018! I’ve learned a fair bit since then on how to use my tools to my advantage so I’m having another go at it!
(and this wouldn’t be the first time this kind of thing has happened: https://www.patreon.com/posts/wips-from-2016-15355569 )

Originally I had used horizontal wire suspension methods of holding up both the sword and Bat-Shirt, but like a dummy, the wire was incredibly hard to erase from the photos… especially since I hadn’t taken any other additional shots without the propped elements to overlay them. Particularly that red background.

Not to mention that the lighting was a mess in those original photos. It was too dark and I was trying to create that red to black fade in-camera with over-head shadows… which is very hard to do with practical lighting on this small of a scale.

So with some new knowledge in my utility belt and a whole two years of thinking about it, the final product still came out okay in the end :)

A small, yet very prolonged ‘mini-project’ that I’m proud to call complete! :)

Okay that’s it, go home!
