Nuno Modelos Brick Spock Review! (Patreon)

He’s here! He’s finally here! :D
I finally got my Nuno Modelos Brick Spock after months of trying to get one
Back in October of last year, he first popped up on RexMinibrick’s page for $45 and I was like “Sweet! Somebody else is making quality Star Trek figs!” But of course there was some kind of disconnect with Rex when I made the order…. First off it was shipped out late which led the package to arrive mid December… kind of...
Rex had sent me a different figure all together (not my precious Spock here) and when I contacted Rex about the issue, they said they were out of the fig and were unable to fix the problem. It was a “To bad, you’re outa luck, here’s a coupon” kind of deal
So when Nuno’s Spock popped up again on OutsideBrick for $55 in late March, I jumped on it! And I’m sure glad that I did because they are again out of stock everywhere I’ve checked since :P
But with delivery dilemmas aside, this fig is great!
The subtle boot printing around the base of each leg is nice. Blue shading for the wrinkles in the shirt are also quite nice and it’s something I didn’t quite notice with the CB torsos that have wrinkles printed in dark grey. Not to mention the additional seam-lines around the smaller collar make it look more refined by comparison.
The emblem and arm bands (while silver and more resembling the 2009 Trek movies) does match up great with the thicker line work of Christo’s two previous starfleet figs (that I’m still upset that I can’t find anywhere).
I do still personally like the size of the gold emblem on the CB better (mostly due to them being more accurate to the source material). But you can’t fault Nuno here because the reflective application of the silver print on this fig is much better quality!
I’m not the biggest fan of the head design translation. The eyes in particular aren’t great. The black border is a bit too large and close together, while the white pupils almost look cross-eyed. The mouth (and in particular, the lips) are printed far too low compared to standard lego faces. I do like the eyebrows, though they too look a little on the thin side and don’t make up for all the other oddities to the design of the piece.
To be Frank, the overall fig as a whole is… well it’s quite an odd collection of things isn’t it.
From the practically copy/pasted torso design from Christo’s previous figs, to the thin and disproportionate head design, then you toss in a great custom headpiece that again looks less like it was designed by Lego, and more by a customizer.
Not that any of these items are bad things on their own, but those ears on the custom piece are quite detailed compared to Lego and how they mold their pointy ears on headpieces. It would have been nice if Nuno took that into consideration when designing them, but what we got in the end is still far from terrible. Especially when you take into consideration this is the first and only Vulcan headpiece to come from any Lego customizer as of early 2021.
So I’ll take that as a win (I guess) no matter which way you slice it!
It’s a nice quality piece on the outside with a shiny finish! And while the inside is a little rough, it’s far from terrible. Honestly I’m nitpicking considering the circumstances :P
All in all, it’s a nice fig to part out and use to customize with other fig parts like the Snape head I generally use for Spock. An odd hodge podge of a minifig, but I quite like it all things considered :)
