JakaBrick's MCU Classic Old Man Loki Review! (Patreon)
Content
Man, it’s been a really good week for my mailbox! Four minifig review posts back to back! Sheesh!
Well let’s jump right into it!
Jaka wouldn’t be Jaka without their excessive packaging! I tell ya, they could really cut down on the cost of some of these figs if they ditched these big dumb things. Also peep that new legal sticker they slapped onto the box! Gotta cover your butt somehow! :P
Okay alright focus Andrew, get to the fig already!
Well let me say that for starters, the custom helmet is fantastic! It’s a nice shiny bright gold that feels soft to the touch and fits well on the head! Good stuff!
However that “yellow” cape is really really orange… like an uncomfortably not-even-close-to-yellow orange that is a bit irritating. And of course, just like with BlackStar’s BTAS Batman cape, this cape requires you to remove the arms from this $100 fig!
Now I don’t know about you’re personal opinions, but to me, that cape is a huge chunk of the figure that’s just... more or less unusable without either damaging the figure’s torso, editing the color to yellow in photoshop for photos, or just straight up painting the thing yourself.
Now that aside, the print of the fig is great! Really clean stuff! Well defined line-work and very Lego-Like. The face itself is nearly identical to the official Richard E. Grant Star Wars fig that I don’t own but included a Bricklink Reference image.
And of course because I’m a crazy person that can’t keep his money in his wallet, here’s the two twin customizers at it yet again!
LifeBrick vs Jaka! *DING DING DING*
Comparing the two, they’re nearly identical… give or take a few wrinkles and stains. LifeBrick’s fig has some subtle white print that Jaka’s doesn't… Jaka’s head print is still way better. LifeBrick has the more accurate back of the fig (lacking the yellow I-Beam down the center).
I didn’t even notice at the time, but the LifeBrick fig’s green arm color doesn't match the torso! Like it’s pretty close, but just a tweak darker :P
Uh what else…?
Oh! Jaka’s of course didn’t come with “special effect magical energy blast” parts, not that they’re needed. But clearly Jaka was going for more of a static pose, rather than LifeBrick’s dynamic one.
Yeah idk they’re so close to one another that it's almost more of a brand-preference than it is a figure preference for me if I had to pick just one. Not sure if you guys find these comparisons as fascinating as I do, but I for one think it can say a lot about what a customizer focuses more of their efforts on and where their production quality rests.
This review certainly sounded more negative than it probably intended to be. I should finish up with how this Loki fig is just fantastic! Even with it's flaws, Jaka still is killing it with their quality and continually hold a place on the podium for my top three! In fact I think I like this Jaka fig overall a bit better than the LifeBrick fig!
But for the sake of the review, I like to keep things as impartial as I can :P
Oh and before I forget, here’s the LifeBrick fig review in case you missed it!
Any thoughts you guys have, I’d love to read them! :)
