TriangleMinifigs Bombastic Bag-Man Two-Pack Review! (Patreon)
Content
“The Bombastic Bag-Man!” suit first popped up in The Amazing Spider-Man No.258 from 1984 after Reed Richards and Johnny Storm figure out a way to remove the symbiote suit from Secret Wars after they find out it’s a symbiote instead of future smart tech or something… look if you know, than you know :P
This weird-ass costume only shows up in that issue in like five pages, but it’s so dumb that I guess it’s concept has stuck around for years now!
Triangle Minifigs produced this minifig two-pack back in 2018 (right around when the Spider-Man PS4 game came out). I’m not sure what ever happened to Triangle Minifigs as this was one of their only memorable pairs of figures to my knowledge
It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen customizers bite the dust. Though it’s always a shame to see them fade away.
Anyway, with my recent luck finding them, I should at least show the masses, right?!
The bag headpiece is a little rough on the inside, so I’m happy to report that the second custom head is still in great condition after all these years. (speaking of the heads, they work perfectly for a classic Secret Wars Spider-Suit!)
The part itself is interestingly shaped, though in my personal opinion perhaps a little too rounded for those corners and edges. Same could be said about the perforation of the bag too. Those little bumps work okay, but certainly could stand to be a little sharper.
I do quite like how it’s not a perfect square shape though! If you are looking at it from the top, it’s wonky and distorted which is pretty fun :)
I enjoy the use of a brighter blue base color for Bag-Man, but I personally feel like Triangle could have used the standard Lego blue for the more standardized FF suit. It feels a bit off when you place him next to the MuddyRiverMinifigs FF team I’ve had since the Stone Age.
If memory serves, that second suit was a proto-design for what ultimately became the Future Foundation (black/white) suit. It’s another one of those “blink and you’ll miss it” suits, but a really cool one to finally have in hand :)
But as for my final thoughts, they’re simple in the eyes of a 2022 custom minifig collector (I mean seriously Bag-Man only has four print layers total), but a lovely pair of figs that I’ve been on the hunt for a long time! …maybe one day I’ll track down a Crystal Minifigs Bag-Man and do a comparison! ;)
