SJBricks Saint Walker / MrJ Brick Star Sahppire (DOUBLE REVIEW!) (Patreon)
Content
Wow! It’s another double review! (I have a feeling we’re gonna see more double reviews coming up with the amount of figs coming in lately… it’s been ridiculous! Man, pre-ordering is irritating)
Anyway, hello and welcome back! (corporate patreon business heads say that if I welcome you back you feel more welcome... so... you're welcome?)
I’m here to talk with you about SJBrick’s Saint Walker (from the UK) and MrJBrick’s Star Sapphire (from Hong Kong)! Two solid figs from two very different places on the planet!
For the Blue Lantern, it's another solid and simple fig from SJBricks! It was shipped out and received a few months back but just kept getting pushed back in favor of other projects. It’s quite a simple fig, but gets the job done perfectly! It’s well printed, and accurate enough to the source material that the only thing that could have made it better would be a custom head mold (not that it needed it)
And that’s about it actually, not much else to really say! Good stuff SJBricks! :P
Now for The Star Sapphire!
I gotta give kudos to MrJ for producing yet another stunning DC figure! DC hasn’t been getting a lot of custom love lately it seems, so it’s wonderful to not only get a Carol Ferris (a character I’ve wanted as a minifig for a very long time now) but a well designed one at that! Score!
I was a big fan of MrJ’s Dark Knight Returns 2-in-1 fig from a while back, but they haven’t done any solo figs since then. Only collaboration projects. So it’s nice to see them back at it, and without a huge pre-order wait time! AND for only $70?! Wow!
Honestly that’s the best praise there is! It really helps hold that line against the whole “toxic preorder buying habits” that this community has really dredged up the last few months.
But hey, let’s get into the review properly!
The hair is so cool! It’s got a matte finish, while the collar doesn't (but we’ll get to that). It would have been cool if the crown had also been glossy like the other two custom parts to contrast the matte hair, but for production reasons I could possibly see why it’s not…
Still, with the dual molding taking place… it could have been possible right?
*reluctant, yet optimistic shrug*
Speaking of the Lantern, it’s nearly a perfect match to the official Lego element, with only some production scratches on the top/bottom of the main body of the piece. There’s also a little bit of scuffing on the sides that’s barely noticeable unless you’re really looking for it.
Honestly that entire piece is a bonus, and I’m super happy that not only the hair/crown looks great, but MrJ Brick molded an entire Lantern to match with the other two DC CMF elements! What a generous addition that sadly the SJBrick’s figure did not include.
When it comes to the translation from comic panel to minifigure, it was an interesting choice to print such subtle indentations on the sides of the torso to refine the shape. While it’s a neat show of printing tech, it probably wasn’t necessary.
Again, $70 for the full fig. Not a terrible price, but the real kicker was practically zero wait time. While some sites listed them as pre-orders (possibly due to the wait time for resellers to receive physical product) , this fig was completed with no "significant" preorder wait! It was in-hand close to a month after I ordered it.
Same thing goes for SJBricks Saint Walker. It took less than three weeks to arrive!
I wanna see more of that in the future! Otherwise you folks here on the Patreon might not get to $ee me review a$ many figure$ coming up… $$$
Phew… anyway… that’s it for these two! They checked all the boxes for me! :)
