You asked for it, here’s the main course! Charles and Eric! Professor X and Magneto themselves in custom minifig form!

Getting a hold of these were a pain! With plenty of delays no thanks to Covid hindering production and increasing their demand, it was an irritating preorder process that involved messaging sellers directly, all starting back in September 2021. Not to mention the comic accurate color variants LifeBrick produced that required word of mouth to get them directly from either Tracy or LifeBrick themselves like some kind of weird drug ring or something…

(wouldn’t be a LifeBrick review without talking about their irritating selling habits)

Regardless, I managed to get the standard set at least, and now they’re here! It’s been a long wait for these two and man do I have some opinions on them!

First off, they came in a comically large tin that was unnecessarily shrink-wrapped and full of foam! Like seriously, this thing is lunchbox sized! You could fit a whole ass sandwich in there, no sweat! Also get a load of that “X-MAN” collectors card. It’s a bit different from the standard LifeBrick 1x1 rounded metal cards and well… all of this crap is empty money going towards something that will sit in a drawer one day until I inevitably sell these two in like ten years or something.

But the dramatic packaging aside, lets talk STUFF! Ya get two figs, two capes, two heads, and a chair! All for that low low low low price of $200 freakin dollars! If you also find that value ridiculous, it’s certainly a measurement of how sane you are.

But I mean look at them! The likeness of these two is just incredible! LifeBrick has never failed in their designs and that’s really why they're so popular around the community. They’re one of the best in design translation, hands down! These two figs both look exactly like their respective actors and the quality of printing in what you get here is nothing but perfection from good ol’LB!

As simple as Magneto is, it’s got all it needs, right down to the minimal red trim that the movie costume had! The faces and molded parts all lend to the look of them and at a glance, they’re pretty great!

One thing I’m not super keen on is how the shoe pattern on Professor X looks to be a reused design from LifeBrick’s TDK Joker two-pack… not to mention that there’s no printing on the bottom of feet for a character that’s primarily seated. The dark blue is hard to miss when they could have been black. We’ve seen it before from LifeBrick (though not recently I’m afraid), so it’s a bit of a shame.

Now when it comes to the chair, one thing I was curious about was the wheels! Well, do they spin?! Yep! They’ve got a technic-like pin that’s snapped so tightly into the piece that I couldn’t remove them. The printing on the wheelchair is great! It’s a nice shiny gold!

The cerebro helmet is also really well printed and quite bright and shiny too! The same could be said about the red printing on the insides of the capes. It’s well applied, plus the tinest of details like the silver arrow cape clasp for Magneto - Good stuff!

However, this is where things start to take a turn…

The secondary cape requires you to remove the arms! Leading to the risk of cracking an expensive custom torso. Booo!

It was around this time that I started wondering to myself… “hey Andrew, why are their FOUR heads included with this set? Isn’t that a bit excessive?”

Well turns out I think LifeBrick may have anticipated this because Magneto’s hair wouldn’t come off the head. It wouldn’t even twist! Not to mention that the helmet sits too high on the other head because it’s too damn tight! I could probably get it on with a little elbow grease, but I know for a fact that it will stay stuck in there forever if I really tried to cram the thing in.

Frankly it’s irritating that a pair of figures at this price expects you to just be okay with possible damage to your figs if you wanted to do anything with them other than just display purposes! It also kills the point of having bonus hairs/helmets/capes because you wouldn’t be able to remove or customize the fig in the most basic ways to photograph them!

UGH

It makes some of these pieces just fancy useless parts and I’m actually genuinely irritated by that. I was really looking forward to messing around with the helmet and other official lego heads, even making some other barfed figs too. Hell, even to shoot different moody shots or action scenes just by swapping the TWO HEADS INCLUDED IN THIS PACK

Nope! Guess not! >:(

(sheesh… it’s been a long time since I’ve been this irritated with LifeBrick…)

Honestly I’m shocked at how let down I was with these two! Sure, the design translations are fantastic, but that quality control and the exclusive nature to even just getting these, especially coming from a brand like LifeBrick is just… disappointing.

*sigh*

That chair looks amazing. Can we see Prof. X in it?
