MuddyRiverMinifigs Hank McCoy! (Patreon)

Wow! Can you believe it! MuddyRiverMinifig’s have put out a new fig for the first time in years!
Not only was it exciting to see their return back in August, being able to get some old figs again, but now they’re releasing new figs into the wild once more, kicking it off with some X-Men!
Of course I have to chuckle a little, MRM seems to have followed in KO Customs’s footsteps with their new release. Returning to the limelight just like KO with X-Men figures, and Beast of all characters more specifically!
Now I’ll try my best, but it’s hard not to compare at least a little to KO’s Beast figure given how both of these figs are designed after the same traditional “Uncanny X-Men” design we all know and love. Granted this fig by MRM is basically a 1:1 recreation of The Lego Marvel Video Game version, so stands out in that regard! What we have here is great, and MRM did a wonderfully simple job on this lil fella!
When it comes to the print quality, this is the best we’ve seen from MRM yet! (I’m sure it helps that they’ve had a lot of time between now and their last release). It’s got a double sided torso and head prints! Plus some great custom molded parts! Not to mention there was no preorder involved which really sways my positivity a lot!
While this old video game design is a bit dated, I still have a soft spot for it. I find that MRM has really nailed the look and feel of that rendered Beast fig perfectly, and I absolutely love the facial expressions! While it’s a simple print, it’s exactly what it needed to be!
The inclusion of the custom claws matching the videogame are also a nice touch. It really brings the fig up in value considering there’s no printing whatsoever on the legs. On the topic of custom parts, the hair is also nice! As far as I can tell, it’s an official Lego piece color matched perfectly to dark blue!
Lastly, Beau was also nice enough to also include some custom made glasses for me! He explained that they were originally intended to be included with all the figs, however the final product tests didn’t quite meet the new MRM standards. However I was still fortunate enough to have gotten sent a pair after chatting with him :)
They’re a little scrappy (naturally, I’m not looking at them critically since they were not intended to be clean), but also look great for what they are! Plus they work great for Clark Kent figs! So thank you Beau for sending me these! Cheers!
All in all, my final thoughts are positive! It’s a nice fig, ‘nuff said!
Still, $80 for its initial release was a hard pill to swallow. Especially when looking at the price of KO’s Beast at only $60 featuring much more print around the entire figure. It’s probably the most expensive MRM fig to date, but that’s not to say it’s also a huge step up in quality coming from Beau.
Not to mention that it’s a great fig if you missed out on KO’s Beast anyway! Or if you have both, doing a little cheeky head swap makes the absolute PERFECT looking Hank McCoy! The head on KO’s was the only aspect of that fig I didn’t really like, so seeing these two mixed together is so cool!
But yeah man! I’m so pumped to see MuddyRiverMinifigs returning, and I’m happy to support them and their future projects! :)
