JinCustoms New Goblin Review! (Patreon)

Hey cool! It's about time I talked about these Spider-Man figs! Better yet, it’s been even longer since I’ve reviewed a JinCustoms fig!
So let’s jump right in with everyone’s favorite James Franco roll of “The New Goblin!”
You remember the one! He’s the best friend with convenient amnesia and owns a flying snowboard because it was 2007 and extreme winter sports were all the rage.
It came inside of a mailer wrapped inside of some foam packaging wrapped inside of a bag wrapped inside of a fancy clamshell box! A bit excessive, but the fig was safe inside… with no snowboard to be found unfortunately.
Then of course the next thing that surprised me was that the hair was black, not a dark brown like in some of the original images Jin put out. Not a big deal, just noticeable. The shaping is still good, and it sorta works on other figs… shame about the color though.
In terms of the print, the likeness is pretty good! Jin really nailed the look of their Spider-Man 3 series of figs and this one is pretty solid in hand. The texturing work they did for this fig’s “kevlar” goblin vest is decent, but I’m not the biggest fan of the muscle shaping. It’s a bit of a departure from the Lego-look. It doesn’t bother me heaps… but again it’s just… noticeable
Granted, I can’t move on without talking about the really impressive print work going on here. There are some impressively finite aspects to this minifig that stand out to me, like the lines in the green that wrap around the back of the torso, the “stitching” for the belts, the texture (that we talked about) and even just how brightly green the green is applied on dark plastic.
Truly impressive print work regardless of if you care for the character or not.
Now when it comes to the accessories, they’re good, but not perfect. The sword is my favorite bit, though I’m concerned that the shiny print may rub off over too much use if not taken good care of. Again, I quite like the shiny green ink they used too! It has a sort of sparkle to it in certain light. But that’s where the praise ends.
It’s a shame that the handle is so square. It makes it hard for the figure to hold. Not only that, but the way it was packed into the foam of the clamshell, it was quite bent out of shape. The photos you see here are after I tried to straighten it back out and it was more or less permanently bent to the left.
On the flip side, it’s impressive that the shoulder armor is printed a full 360° taking a look at the dagger sheath! Again, some really good shiny green print applied all around it!
Wrapping all my thoughts up for this one is a challenge, but here’s what I’ve got!
It’s hard to believe that this fig didn’t come with the snowboard glider though! Hell, not even any pumpkin bombs! It feels like an oversight honestly especially at that steep $120 price tag.
The print alone is really good… and I guess when I think about it… it’s a full wraparound fig, a bonus head, two headpieces, two different gauntlets, and a sword… mark it up a little for reseller profit and I can sorta see that $120 price tag…?
idk
Maybe I just don’t think the character itself warrants the $120…?
While it’s certainly the best at being the only one of its kind (I mean come on, who the hell was really gonna make the James Franco Goblin?!) It’s the best one because it’s the only one and perhaps that’s where the demand came from
I mean I paid for it and I’m a sucker!
…hey wait a minute!
