Second Hand Retro Review! The Dark Phoenix! (Patreon)

Man am I lucky or what!

I recently scored this hodgepodge of two figs on Tracy’s second hand market and man is it in good condition!

It’s the majority of a Lab9/UG collab fig from 2018 (torso, legs, and two of the same head for some reason). However Tracy listed it with the inclusion of Diamond Custom Bricks’s head and weird rubbery hair from their own Dark Phoenix fig from around the same time

(I guess that’s what you get for buying second hand!)

See, I’ve been on the hunt for the old green and gold version of that fig for ages now, and I’m kicking myself still to this day because I skipped it at the time! But finally getting the red and gold one is just as cool! Not only that, but I paid just under $70 for this fig which again was a miracle! I’ve seen that green/gold fig go for three times as much! It’s a shock that I of all people managed to scoop it up!

But enough of the old ancient flickr-days lore! Let’s talk about the fig!

For being a used fig, its shiny print is still nice and bright! Just as shiny as I could hope for! Given the age of the fig, that shine can wear down if not treated carefully so again, I was super lucky!

The funky hair included is decent quality for DCB and sorta does the job of an action pose. It’s nice and shiny on the outside too which is nice, but in the old days of DCB, they made all their custom hair with rubber. 

Makes me think of the time first found that out the hard way!

In terms of functionality, they both in their own way are serviceable, but neither fit the bill for me. I probably won’t even use them going forward 🤷🏻‍♂️

All things considered, I can only wonder who the original seller was and what they did with the original metal collectors card and hair piece… I may never get to the bottom of that one. But be it what it is, I still love what I managed to score! It’s a mystery and also holds a story behind it that I’ll never know! This fig has traveled the globe and I think that’s pretty neat :)
