MrJ Brick's The Lizard! (Patreon)

Oh my gosh I LOVE this fig!
The tongue! The bumps! The toes! The big ole hands! The coat! The TAIL!
Gaaaahhh!
MrJ is THE customizer for classic comic figs and this one is nothing short of wonderful! Their designs and comic-to-lego adaptations are always fantastic and The Lizard has been long overdue for some good custom minifig treatment!
The simplification of design turned Lego is just amazing and MrJ yet again shows just how great they are at designing classic minifigs!
“I’m in love with a lizard man! More news at 11!”
…I’m not really sure where to segway from here… uuuhh… it looks rad! Like the 90s! The 90s were rad! You can see this is clearly a 90s Spider-Man Animated Series Lizard, but it also could fit well as a Ditko 60s design and that alone is an impressive challenge to get right!
MrJ could have pushed for a sandgreen tone for the green, or over-complicated the fig print! They could have gone crazy with texture for the head and tail with crazy shading details, but no! They showed their skill in restraint, and because of it, leads this Lizard to fit right in with tons of other classic Spider-Man figs and characters!
The print overall is fantastic with the green printed all around to look like ripped fabric! Interestingly enough, it’s primarily a white torso, printed over with that black shirt design. Mostly to accommodate the coat!
And truly, the custom parts are where this fig shines and (only slightly) disappoints all in one fell swoop!
The idea to use the Lego “faun legs” for this green fella is genius! It’s the perfect shape and vibe that The Lizard needs to looks just a liiiiiitle less human! They’re custom molded by the looks of things, but if you weren’t looking closely, you probably wouldn’t notice.
These toes match pretty well with the hands… but not so much with the off-green tail and head. It bugs me far more than it should.
From a design standpoint, I love them both! They’re both perfectly textured and simplified! Shaped to meet the Lego aesthetic, while also being sturdy (attached directly to the coat). But the color matching is… not good.
Thankfully it’s an easy photoshop fix to get them all to match with standard Lego green, but it’s still a bit of a bummer that these two spots aren’t saturated enough.
On the topic of the tail once more, I was sort of hoping it would have been poseable. But nope. It’s a solid piece that’s part of the coat itself. I’m happy it’s sturdy and won't break any time soon, but it is a missed opportunity for sure.
Oh but I forgot to talk about the hands!
I love the addition of Jin’s “claw gloves” that we recently saw on their Sabertooth fig. Just like the use of the faun legs, the big sharp hands do a lot to raise this figure’s vibe from “just a minifig” to “bonafide lizard guy!”
$72 bucks and only had to wait about six months for him! Not too shabby MrJBrick! Just gotta work on the color matching! ;)
