Abnormal Minifigure's DCEU JL'17 Flash ⚡️ (Patreon)

Now I’ll be upfront here and say that I’m a little biased about this suit! It’s one of my faves, and honestly the actor in the suit didn’t give the justice the costume deserved or the dignity the character holds in pop culture. That being said, let’s get on with the review and stop all this yammering!

~*~*~*~*~

I like this fig! Not as much as Jaka’s Wonder Woman, but I still enjoy it!

Abnormal in their recent reviews of mine haven’t been impressing me all that much, and this fig is a good example of why I’ve been passing on more and more of their figs lately. This fig in a few ways, feels a little… incomplete for me.

Sure, it’s got the essential details down, but there’s something missing here. Like there’s a contrast balance that’s not quite right, or the matte finish feels a bit… off…

For one thing, I find the silver all over this fig to be too bright. The hope, faith, and wiring that holds that costume together in the film isn’t nearly as noticeable on screen as it is here.

Same thing with the emblem. That shoulda been white around the bolt, not silver. The bolt itself is also a bit small and missing some key shading for more of a three dimensional look like it had in the film.

Even a majority of the lower half of this fig feels unfinished. I mean just look at the front of the legs! There’s only black, dark red, and silver ink (again the silver being too prominent). Only three layers of ink really doesn't scream "premium figure" when the source material looks like an over-designed Anime Character was brought to life.

Like there needs to be more scuffs and scrapes on the toes. Even another layer of darker red ink? Thinner black linework perhaps? …idk

The original renders showed more depth in the design all over. The render has a white border around the emblem that’s not present here. There’s more print on the toes, even more dark red linework that follows the black.

It's a handful of subtle changes that add up from pre-order to final product. (yet another reason why pre-ordering custom figs sucks)

But, I should say that regardless of the small changes, I’m still happy to have this version of the suit at all in Lego form! For one thing, that helmet kicks ass! The shaping is pretty spot on, the wings are nice and shiny, plus they’re molded outward and away from the helmet a little which is a big win over the official fig’s headpiece!

Again, I woulda loved to have seen maybe a scuff or two from crashes (like he’s got in the movie) however what we still got here was pretty great! But uh… as for the fit… well the helmet was so tight on the heads it came with that it actually scuffed the print! 🙄

“Say the line Andrew!”

*sigh*

"It wouldn’t be an Abnormal fig if the headpiece was loose!”

:(

But hey, let’s pivot and talk about the zappy blue bits! (positves folks! gotta focus on the positives!)

The three lightning elements included are neat! That over the shoulder piece is rad! It’s not too big and clunky, not to thin and spindly, it’s just right! It’s got sharp corners, it refracts light well, AND it fits correctly to the fig!

The two wrist-mounted parts are also nice, but it brought me to my final take-away for this fig… no printed hands :(

Not even some simple fingerless-glove hands. Just plain dark red hands

Idk… it’s not like the fig was advertised to include printed hands, but the fingerless gloves were a cool skater/sporty aspect of this on-screen suit! It’s a detail let out that feels like a missed opportunity.

Ah well, a few spare eclipsgrafx hands were quickly added a little while later!

I even messed around with parts from MOBrick’s 90s Flash and swapped around some heads because I was curious! There’s some alignment trouble, and some things didn’t fit while others did, but it was fun to mess around with the two!

But the final thoughts?

$112 for this fella! The quality is almost there and the design is… serviceable. But I think I’ll still be on the lookout for a better one in the future…

But ya give him some gloves and it does a world of difference, let me tell ya!
