Phoenix Customs 2012 Captain America! (Patreon)

Well! This fig was a long time coming!

Ordered this bad boy back in June 2022 and it arrived to me around January 2024 😵‍💫

(if it takes longer than six months, it’s probably a Phoenix fig! That’s what I always say!)

Not only that, but PCB held another one of those  “DLC” upgrade packs that included three extra parts for $40 freakin dollars… Needless to say I skipped it because that’s a wild price, even for me! The renders for these extras didn’t call to me at the time...

(seeing real photos of the final product makes me kinda sorta mildly wish I woulda snagged it… perhaps it’s a little bit of FOMO on my part) but I digress, it’s in the past.

I mean, minus the hood, I can still get pretty close with official fig parts 🤷🏻‍♂️

But still… if you would have asked me the same question in June ‘22 that you would today, I’m still not too keen on the whole “expansion pack” hullubaloo even now days. If it's worth making it, then sell it all together! Please don’t make me spend another chunk of change, then another $30 on international shipping just for the sake of completing a fig.

It’s cool, but since PCB doesn't have a US reseller, I’m not gonna spend the price of another fig just to get an extra head and hairpiece.

PCB isn’t even the worst guilty party here, Jin is out there going for world records of “expansion packs” and “gift sets” as they call them… idk man, this is a weird hobby and sometimes I can’ get everything I want and that’s a bummer.

Just include all the stuff as one sale! GAH! >:(

Anyway with that all off my chest, it’s onto the review!

This fig shoulda been dark blue right? We’re all thinking it! Sure, the official suit is something closer to a mix between dark and standard Lego blue, but it certainly leans more towards the opposite shades we’re seeing here…(?)

Idk… I didn’t make this fig, I’m just reviewing it! What do I know! 🤷🏻‍♂️

But look at what it could have been (using a little bit of rushed photoshop magic and color liberty)

To an extent, I get why PCB printed this fig over standard blue. I also agree that Dark blue is too dark, especially when it’s lined up next to some of their other Cap figs of the past…

While it looks half decent in a lineup, I would have preferred something a little more intune with the films/my color edit up there^

But where the color lets me down a little, I really really like the overall design of the fig! It would've been nice to get some side torso printing, but everything else is top notch!

The 360 arm and leg prints are clean, and the small shiny details are nice and bright! And as far as details go, they’re not too over-done in most places. The only thing that feels a bit “too much” are where those knee pads meet the boots. There’s a lot of linework going on down there at the bottom third of the fig that draws my eye in a negative way.

But those head prints are perfect in every way!

The three faces we get in the set are spot on! I love the minimal expressions here that not only match well with previous PCB Captain America’s, but are great for swapping with other Cap figs like Brothers Figure and Nostalgia (sorta… that headpiece didn’t want to fit on all the way)!

Lastly, the custom parts!

The shield is nothing to shout home about. We’ve seen variations on PCB Cap shields in the past and this one plays the part just fine. Again with the colors, they’re allllllmost there! The white shoulda been silver, right?

But that candy-apple shiny red nice! Although it’s a bit scrappy around the edges…

The helmet is so close to perfect, but the shaping for the “ears” feel just a teeeeny tiny bit too low to the sides of the head. When you’re looking at it in profile, they’re lower than the eyes are, and their tips are the second lowest part of the helmet.

I like their thickness and how far they stick out from the sides of the head, but for me they’re just a bit too low for my personal taste.

It does however look really good on other custom blue-heads!

At the end of it all I sound like I’m ragging on this fig. Partially I am, because we’ve gotten better figs from PCB in the past. The colors really kill it for me.

There's no “official Lego” middle blue that would have been ideal for this fig, but PCB is known for sticking to Lego’s aesthetics more often than not. Woulda been nice if they bent the rules this one time though…

I like this fig, I really do! It’s a nice addition to the PCB Cap Collection! But it’s just not my favorite one 🤷🏻‍♂️
