JakaBrick She-Hulk (Throwback Review!) (Patreon)

Here’s a fig that’s been sitting on the desk for a while! Let’s finally take a look at it!

This Jaka fig went up for preorder back in Oct 2022, and arrived to me around Feb of 2023 and well, you can see just by looking at this fig that I’m not 100% impressed with it. Jaka’s improved so so soooo much since 2022! It’s kinda interesting to take a look back at a fig that frankly wasn’t all that amazing from the get-go.

For one thing, She-Hulk as a standard-sized minifig hasn’t really impressed me, and given how LifeBrick’s fig turned out last year, the truth is, I just wasn’t all that excited to talk about this one 🤷🏻‍♂️

The print quality is decent for an older Jaka fig, but the design is a real let down.

Jaka's choice of dark grey ink for the texture work leaves the intended central black areas of this fig a little to bright for my taste. Not to mention that there’s some subtle musculature that gets lost in all that texture. In most lighting scenarios, you really can’t even see it.

(seriously I tried to photoraph it as best the fig would let me! just zoom in and you’ll find it hiding in there) :P

The white isn’t very strong either and the texture work (again) doesn't help. However the wrap-around shoulder print is nice! There! I said something nice about the fig!

The smiling face feels a little funny looking though… like the mouth is too wide or something… I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe it’s the lip color? Just a bit too bright over the olive green plastic? Both expressions feel like they’re printed a little too low on the head piece. Could be part of the contributing factor to why it looks a bit odd.

Idk, there's something just a liiiiitle bit off about it. Like, it’s not terrible, but you can just tell it’s a custom. The facial design itself isn’t terrible. I mean hell, it looks a heck of a lot better with the Lego-Official hair!

But the custom hair this fig came with? ...oof… it really kills this fig for me.

The hair is too dark right off the bat. Obviously the reference material at the time was limited, but we all know that in the comics her hair is dark green, and this fig has straight up black hair. Nothing exciting. Just flat black.

The 3D-Design of the hair is also a bit funky. But by comparison to LifeBrick’s (and yes’s I’ll do a proper comparison post in a bit) the volume of hair is just wrong. I mean look at the back! That  bump on the top of the head is so cone-like when you’re looking at it from the side. I feel like the upper curve of the hair should have really peaked from the bangs and then tapered off from there…

All in all it was fine for $78 at the time. Nothing to shout home about other than how Jaka’s improved soooo much in the last couple of years!

I mean wow, look at this, and then look at their new Wonder Woman! Night and day!
