Hey everybody, happy Monday! It's October 5th, and I hope everyone had a good weekend. Here's what we got done last week and what's happening this week and beyond. At the end of the audio I ask some feedback questions. I did not include them in this summary as they are extremely hypothetical and just thoughts right now.

Charity Stream for St. Jude: Today and Tomorrow at 2 PM CST

Today I'm taking part in a Space Marine 2 charity event raising money for St. Jude, the charity of our choice. It's a team competition to be the bestest and fasted at several challenges; and my team is Orks in Disguise.

We're live Monday the 5th (today) and Tuesday the 6th, both at 2 PM CST, on my personal Twitch channel, ZoranTheWizard, with Nearly Sam and Falling Cow.

To find my stream and more.

What We Got Done Last Week

We recorded Chaos Odyssey, Rotgrind, and Whisperwood.

We stopped one Whisperwood recording early because the team hit a big downtime stretch: crafting, buying, shopping. We're handling that offline so everyone can double-check inventories and research the items they want, and you'll see it come to fruition next session.

A lot of my week went into planning: the business numbers, how each channel is doing, restructuring people. With how things are growing and how the world is right now, we're having to adjust things.

Show Updates

WarHams: A Chaos Odyssey

We're recording tonight, and we're getting close to the end of the show. I'm really excited for you all to see how it ends. Our next Warhammer project is being prepared too, and I'll have an update on that fairly soon.

Rotgrind

Rotgrind is on for the 7th. Thurston is out next week, so there's no Rotgrind on the 14th.

Whisperwood

Whisperwood is back on Saturday the 10th. It would of been the week after but SOMEONE wants to go to an UNDERTALE CONCERT and not be TORTURED BY ME in TTRPGS.

The bigger news: we're no longer recording two episodes per session. Every Whisperwood session we stream with you has been producing two episodes. Going forward, it's one.

We pay our players for every episode they do, and after going through the numbers, with the economy the way it is, we just can't afford the pace we've been running. Release frequency should stay normal. So nothing changes on your end. That's the only major adjustment we're making. Everyone is still super excited to go through the whole adventure, so no worries there.

Mothership One-Shot with SpeakerD

It's spooky month, so SpeakerD will be running his Mothership game this month. It's a nice little horror TTRPG, and the players will be me, Odo, and Hulky. We'll more than likely livestream it, but I need to triple-check with SpeakerD since he's game mastering, and sometimes going offline is more comfortable for people. I'll get it scheduled with him.

Upcoming Schedule

Monday, October 5, 2 PM CST: Space Marine 2 charity stream for St. Jude on the ZoranTheWizard Twitch

Monday, October 5 (tonight): WarHams: A Chaos Odyssey recording

Tuesday, October 6, 2 PM CST: Space Marine 2 charity stream, day two

Wednesday, October 7: Rotgrind

Saturday, October 10: Whisperwood (moved up for Veggit's concert)

Wednesday, October 14: No Rotgrind (Thurston is out)

Sometime in October: SpeakerD's Mothership one-shot (date to be scheduled)

Thank you so much for listening to me ramble for 20-something minutes. I've got meetings to get ready for and a lot to do, so let me get back to work for you. See you at the charity event and on the streams, and I'll catch you all next week!

In terms of subs, I don't really care. I do not believe a lower price will change anything, as it won't make any difference to someone currently struggling. Centralizing it through Patreon depends on the friction it places on new supporters. For the streams, I sorta agree you should stop it if it doesn't seem worth it. Unless you can get donations rolling or ads, it doesn't seem viable. However, there is a matter of momentum. Chat adds an energy to the game and it keeps them engaged with NarDec, so that depends on the actual numbers you're getting during the streams.

I don’t mind the different tiers of Patreon subs. I don’t really mind either way about sub locked games- but I adore getting unedited stuff with my sub. Maybe a two tier system could help? I dunno. As for streams, I am behind on everything that is streamed and so showing up for the one or two I’m able to catch time zone wise is hard to justify since it’s all spoilers. A downside of the ttrpg live streams is that if you aren’t up to date, it’s hard to want to jump in for more than a few minutes. If it simplifies things for you because it allows recording days or times to shift as needed I say do it because that’s a healthier long term goal than not being able to have a player show up

When it comes to the live streams vs VODs or Podcasts, I very much prefer the podcasts. Pretty much every time NarDec streams, I'm working on something. And it is much simpler for me to be able to have the show run in the background.

Personally, whatever you guys need to do to make your lives easier is fine by me. Life is hard and you all do amazing work.

For the Patreon pay side best to leave it be, people pay for what they can. It really depends if dropping it down to allow more access to people so they don't try grab it from somewhere else. What that is could be just the bare bones episode - who knows. The Livestream/VOD's side I think VOD's/Podcast is the way to go as its just easier for everyone. People can relax and fully enjoy the episode anywhere anytime and you dont have to have a heart attack if some tech problem pops up. Probably better co-ord for you guys too as you can slide it left or right so long as it eventually comes. Critical roll is probably a poor reference, look at dimension 20 in that space instead. People can still interact like through here and there is always the triumphs/complications. Hell have other weird side bits between shows with votes from the "town", people being assigned roles in the background that wont intercede with the story. Or offering themselves similar to Fels army or volunteer "5 Minute Merc" for side happenings in towns, etc. Plenty of offline interactions already.

Centralizing the payments at the moment is a terrible idea. While it does open up the patreon to more people, the whole situation is based on whether a person "can" or "can't" pay. A minor price change won't fix that. Your claims of financial fragility only bolster my opinion in that regard. As for streaming, I personally do not watch them because I have a full time job and they're always in the middle of it. On top of that, the internet is full of idiots with the attention span of a flea. If you don't jingle something shiny in their face every other second then you won't keep their attention. My vote is to cut the streams if it helps stabilize your organization in multiple ways. Gone are the sick days of the 2020's when everyone clung to streamers for slavation from insanity. Keep the streams at least for Rotgrind going until the end, then do away with them going forward.

Regarding the tiers, I subscribe to a fair number of Patreons, generally at fairly low tiers, as a show of support. Any benefits of those tiers are secondary to that main goal. The one exception actually being you guys, as I increased my tier to get access to the exclusive shows. From that perspective, I feel that those that subscribe to higher tiers do so because they want to support you more and see that as the best option (with the exception of the Gold tier offering access to exclusive shows, which is the single largest jump in subscription offerings in my view). Replacing with an option where people can just choose their own amounts shouldn't matter too much logically, but people tend choose the easier option and probably won't really increase the donation amount all that often from its preset price. It would probably lose you a lot of money of a dubious increase in subscriber QoL (from my point of view, at least, but I'm not a content creator, nor someone knowledgeable of the industry). Regarding streams, I'll admit I've never watched them, as I vastly prefer the option to watch/listen to episodes at my own leisure and pace. I do admit that the crew interactions with chat add some liveliness to the episodes, but I am doubtful whether that measures up against you guys having a better/easier time when recording offline. I do feel livestreams could work as advertisements of the Patreon potentially, but as I said, I'm not a livestream enjoyer of any kind (not just limited to the NarDec channel, I just don't really interact with any livestreams), nor, as mentioned previously, someone with industry knowledge, so I wouldn't know for sure.

As a stream watcher, I do enjoy getting to see people reacting to each other live and in Whisperwood getting to see the chat some times getting to add there voices to the smaller NPC. However, I also understand how much more of a challenge this makes things in the scheduling side, as well as streaming into two different websites and dealing with the requirements for both. I think the biggest fear I have with removing streaming thought comes down to it being one of only ways to be an advertisement for the Patron only shows other then shorts in YT. Thought I am not sure how effective it is at such a thing.

PaperhatXII

No opinion on the tiers, do what you have to do. Unfortunately I don't have the time to go to the live streams. Podcast are my speed to allow me to listen when I can. I enjoy the NarDec group dynamic and look forward to future campaigns.
