In the month of February at some point due to the position of the full Moon it will be Carnaval before Easter comes. (Roughly from 1 February to 7 March can be held the feats of Carnaval)

This is a Dutch/German tradition dating way back to the Dark Ages of old to party and be jolly for 4 whole days and nights before the Catholic Fasting/Abstination period begins.

So what IS Carnaval?
Basicly one HUGE costume party! With loud very up-beat tunes played mostly on brass instruments like trompets and tuba's and big drums.
People create HUGE self made parade wagons of all kinds of Fantasy figures with wild  and outlandish themes. And at the end of the parade the best wagon wins a price for it's efforts.

This is in NO WAY simular to Carnaval in South America though!
There all is fancy and glamourasly flashy with pretty girls in thongs and feathers.
Our costumes are more dressed to fight the February cold.

Having said that this is a Dutch tradition its ONLY held in the SOUTH of our country (where I am from) The North doesnt get the meaning of it and dont participate in any of this.
Some parts of Germany that border our Southern provinces and Belgium also celebrate this same tradition of Carnaval. For we once were part of the same region dating back MANY centuries ago.

At Carnaval EVERYTHING is allowed as long as its for FUN!
All people are rated equel and everyone is allowed cheeky stuff that they could not do or dare in regular times. Huging, kissing and fondling perfect strangers is all welcomed.
