Shane ran away because Ilya called him by his first name for the first time then he returned it

hyuuuk

I’m gonna say without spoiling things though. Shane ran away because he felt too much. that moment was as you said very romantic and intimate, but on top of that they called each other by their names for the first time. He felt it getting too serious, got scared and ran away.

During their years of flirting and hooking up, Shane definitely knew that Ilya also liked women and that he was hooking up with other people. They were never exclusive or thought they were exclusive up until this point.

Qwaz

Also interestingly enough; they shot the whole season (all eps at a time) over the course of 37 days, so it was a very short filming period! However, Hudson did say that he bulked up a lot over the shooting and by the end he had gained, and I’ll use his words, “9 or 10 pounds of clappable material.” 😂

okay so here I go... ep.3: first of all I LOVE THEM!! especially after reading their book omg such a precious people 🥹 Yes the girls are two different people (Maria - coworker and Elena - really close friend), they put almost a whole book into one episode so it all felt really fast but actually it wasn't THAT fast... it wasn't slow but yeah🤣 their situation is so heartbreaking bcs Kip can only meet Scott inside of his apartment and has to lie to everyone (then he told Elena but still) and Scott also feeling bad for not being able to take Kip anywhere and show him off but is also scared because he has so much to lose (basically everything since all he has is hockey) i also loved how Elena talked to Scott and not only wanting the best for Kip but also for Scott🥺 I swear I love every women in this show!! Ep.4: oh my god. such a good episode tbh especially because you cal already see them realising that ITS NOT ONLY SEX... I think you kind of missed that they always call each other by their last name and in their scene at couch it was the first time they called each other by their first name which is way more intimate for them and Shane reaction did proved that it was DIFFERENT the moment.. Rose.. she's so pretty and nice🥹 Shane really seemed to be really comfortable while talking to Rose which was really nice to see. THE CLUB SCENE oh lord.. THE SONG CHOICE, THE CINEMATOGRAPHY, THE ACTING... one of my fav scene even tho it's a bit sad... really can't wait for last two episodes (THE BEST ONES)

jeffavenue

ohhh i didn’t catch that 🫣oopsies 😅

jeffavenue

gotcha! thanks for the clarification- will make a mental note for next eps!

jeffavenue

ahhh ok it was shot like a film! makes sense!

Ugh, episode 4 is my 2nd favorite from the series, it's just too good. Hudson said he hated filming the scene of him leaving Ilya at his house bc it felt wrong but as everyone else said, he leaves bc Shane felt the shift in their relationship when they said each other's first names. Can't wait for your reaction to 5&6 they only keep getting better.

Is ep 5 your favorite episode?. Because it's mine hahaha

I think a lot of people assume that Ilya was trying to provoke Shane or make him jealous when he was discussing other women on the couch, but he wasn't. Instead, he shared his own experiences as a clumsy invitation for Shane to do the same, hoping that by exposing his own sexual history, he would create a safe space for Shane to be honest about his.. Ilya desperately wants to know if Shane likes women because he fears a relationship wouldn't be possible if he did.

Kris

Exactly! Shane spent years longing for a deeper connection with Ilya, but the moment they got there, Shane felt exposed and it tterrified him. As long as Ilya kept him at arms length he felt safe loving him, but the moment ilya draws him close he quite literally can't escape fast enough.

Kris

Ilya and Shane have been in a 8-9 year situationship, however their physical time together was limited to 2-3 times a year when their teams would compete against each another. Until now, they’ve existed almost entirely in hotel rooms with no real 'quality time or communication.' The shift happens when Ilya invite Shane to his home and ask him to stay—an invitation he pre-planned, evidenced by the pre-stocked ginger ale, which is Shane's favorite drink.

The mouth drops at every rated-r scene cracks me up lmaoooo. Episode 5 let's gooooooooo

Kris

I know a lot of people feel really bad for Shane during the club scene when he sees Ilya dancing with another woman, however I try to work at it at from Ilya's point of view. get extremely frustrated when people judge Ilya He went completely out of his comfort zone for Shane: By inviting him to his home (not a hotel room), asking him to spend the night (which neither of them have ever done), pre-stocking the ginger ale (because it's Shane's favorite), opening up about his sexual history (in an attempt to make Shane feel safe doing the same) Ilya was being uncharacteristicly vulnerable. All for Shane to literally walk out on him. Feeling personally rejected and watching Shane move on (in a very public way), especially with a woman, was a massive blow. His actions at the club weren't just 'petty' like I've heard some people say; they were the reaction of someone who had been deeply hurt

Joy

I love 4&5 so much but I think episode 5 is my fav by like 🤏🏼 much! Honestly just depends on the day

You need to watch 5 & 6 ASAP!! Episode 5 has one of the highest Rotten Tomato episode ratings in history; it's so good. Also funny story behind the All The Things She Said song: It was done by this Russian duo that pretended to be lesbians in the 00's for attention and thus they (t.A.T.u.) are kind of controversial on both sides for it. It's such an interesting and intentional song choice.

EDIT! Okay, here I go, since it's been a long time since I wrote an essay on your reactions. Haha Remember that Shane is on the Autism spectrum, so he, by default, processes his emotions and situations very differently than people who are not on the spectrum. Ilya made himself vulnerable by inviting him to his home and sharing his sexual experience in order to see if Shane would open up. But also to take a phone call like that in front of someone is a big thing. When they were together on the couch, it got too real for the both of them, BUT Ilya was the one who said the name first (He is so in love omg). When Shane answered back, it got too intense, real and scary for him because we still haven't seen Shane talk openly about his sexuality + feelings can be scary for people on the spectrum. Also, two details that not many people talk about in that scene are: 1.) Shane leaves with Ilya's clothes haha and 2.) Ilya noticed it was too much for Shane and immediately called him Hollander 2 times to reassure they can always go back and that he respects his boundaries (even though he was scared to lose him at that moment and was hurt that he did leave) Shane however was too caught up in feeling scared that he did not see that specific intention of ilya. I forgot to mention this. In this case Shane was the one to lead which did not happen in the whole trajectory of their situationship and he starts frotting too which is so intimate. The actors had to actually dub the names because they were too much in character and forgot the lines and had to add that later THAT is how strong that moment was I can’t The club scene: Little background on t.A.T.u, they were a Russian duo who pretended to be lesbians. Before this was known us millennials/gen x/early gen z felt seen and proud that the lgbtq+ community was highlighted in the media like that only for it to be a lie (which they got a lot of hate for). However, using this song for that scene was one of the most clever choices ever, especially for us who have lived those times in music and what it did in the community. My take on this scene is that Shane is basically still searching for answers and, like you said, he is still hoping that Ilya will talk to him, which makes it obvious what it is he wants, he just needs to be honest about that. In this case, Ilya acted out of him being hurt by what happened before at the house and then suddenly seeing him moving on that quickly without even having a moment to talk about what happened. So no, he is not petty or toxic like many are saying. (Also, this club scene is different in the book) All The Things She Said is the song that was used and some say that the lyrics do not match because Shane is not a girl. However, in Russian the song translates to "I Have Lost My Mind", which both did haha. So I kinda wished they mixed the Russian version (when Ilya was on screen) with the English version (when Shane was on screen). That would have been even more epic, but regardless, acting wise and how the director changed some things from the book to make this epic scene is amazing to see!! The overall take on these episodes: I LOVE IT! Like I said in my reaction to the previous episodes (I have read the books), we are not seeing the internal dialogue that Ilya has with himself, which is why some people do not understand where he is coming from. AND THE ACTING OF CONNOR OMG! Mind you he was bopping to the music until he saw Miles and scanned the room in fear of seeing Shane and how he acted that was amazing. I know you will love the last two episodes, and you will probably cry as well (I know I did). But honestly, this could not have been cast any better. Connor and Hudson did an amazing job, and I am obsessed with them.
