I just started cdrama as well. Tbh I always gave up remembering names and the plot during early episodes, and just learn them as the episode goes. Less stressful that way 😂

ok let me help you abit w/out spoiling anything. 5 clans: Qi (imperial clan, Emperor Qi Sheng), Xie (from Xie Zheng father's side, Yanzhuo army mostly Xie soldiers), Wei (from his Mother and Uncle chancellor side, Wei Xuan is chancellor's son takes over Yanzhuo army but soldiers won't obey), Li (old grand tutor Li side, grandson Li Hunian/Wenkan as General He calls him), Sui (rebel clan, Prince Changxin the rebel prince Wei Xuan and General He discussed about him), Gongsun (his BFF's clan). Areas: General He in charge of Jizhou (serves under Wei Yan/chancellor but doesn't care about factions), Xie Zheng incharge of Yanzhuo, Prince Changxin in Chanzuo (where Xie Zheng was hit by hidden arrow). Wei Xuan takes Yanzhuo army (Xie Zheng's, mostly Xie clan thats why soldiers won't obey him). Linan and Xigu alley won't be the only places in this series. 💜😃 Also to add, Changning doesn't call them by their names, its always sister and brother in-law... Idk why these subtitles no matter what platform changes that... it's part of the culture...

Without spoiling too much, Chancellor Wei has sent assassins to the Fan family for the letter that was initially with Fan Changyu’s father (then entrusted to General He). The content of the letter though serves as an evidence of the massacre that happened 16 years ago. So Chancellor Wei was after that letter and destroyed it immediately after getting it. Which is also why he decided to leave the 2 Fan daughters alone since their father (witness) is dead + evidence destroyed. That being said, it goes to show that Changyu’s father, General He and Chancellor Wei are linked to the massacre.

I think since its your first time (not really sure) watching cdrama, there are quite many backgrounds or cultures that you dont familiar with it so you may be confusing. You can search the relationship chart if you really dont get it. It’s normal for you to feel like that since you also not familiar with chinese name and stuff so it’s quite hard to remember or match it with the character. But i think once you watch more or familiar with it you will get it easily nx time. 😆

Make me laugh watching you getting confused with all the names. if any comforting, we chinese audiance also struggle at the first 5 or 10 episodes with the names and the connections between everybody. Maybe you should get a pen and write down some notes hahaha

i have to say it's impressive that you are pretty much right about everything. So basically there are three parties, Wei, Li and He. The junior Li and He, they are good guys and loyal to their countries, and He is a good friend of Changyu's father. And Old Li and the Wei are unknown about their character at this point and you should keep watching and find out who are the bad guys. And i think that letter is The Letter. It was burnt but that's okay because it's the truth about what happened 16 years ago that matters, not the letter itself.

Thank you for another mini-marathon! Don't stress too much about the plot lines. The show does a good job of reinforcing all these points that may seem confusing at first, in the later episodes. It's not expecting you to get it right away. It reveals a little at a time. Trust the timing and the pacing. The hero's journey will come but there's a reason why the writer is spending more time in this town.

omgggg. youre so funny looking confused and when there's information overload. also I find myself giggling with you on those scenes too🤣 dont worry. the names and places still confused me (watching since 2008) and still couldnt understand chinese. you'd think I would have learned it by now after 18 yrs.🤣 anyway, dont worry about trying to dissect. things will unfold. or atleast make sense as the episodes. there's more characters and arc coming. omg. i feel like im watching it for the first time with you! Always looking forward to this weekly! 😍😍😍 such a stress reliever. how i spend my me time after kids go to bed😅
