It's indeed difficult to get the Chinese pronunciation from English names, but I've tried adding some phonetic marks for you: Fan Chang-yu (Fahn Chahng-yoo) • Fan: Like a cooling fan. • Chang: Like "cha-cha" with an -ng at the end. • Yu: Rhymes with "you", but say it with your lips rounded in a tight "O" shape. Xie Zheng (Sheh Juhng) • Xie: Sounds like "she" in "shed". • Zheng: Starts with a soft "J", followed by "uhng" (like the end of "rung"). Yan Zheng (Yahn Juhng) — Xie Zheng's false identity • Yan: Sounds like Yahn (rhymes with "John"). • Zheng: Same as above. Qi Min (Chee Meen) • Qi: Sounds like "cheek" without the 'k'. • Min: Sounds exactly like the word "mean". Li Huai'an (Lee Why-ahn) • Li: Sounds exactly like "Lee". • Huai: Sounds like the question "Why". • an: Sounds like ahn (rhymes with "on"). Gong-sun Yin (Gohng-swun Yin) — Also called Mister Sun (Note: "Gong-sun" is his two-syllable family name) • Gong: Sounds like "Go" with an -ng at the end. • sun: Sounds like "swan". • Yin: Sounds like "seen" but starts with a "Y" sound. Sui Yuan-qing (Sway Yuahn-cheeng) • Sui: Sounds exactly like "Sway". • Yuan: Sounds like yuahn (similar to "yawn"). • Qing: Sounds like cheeng (rhymes with "king"). Sui Yuan-huai (Sway Yuahn-why) • Sui & Yuan: Same as above. • huai: Sounds like the question "Why".

Sui Yuanhuai/QI MIN is the oldest son, however Sui Yuanqing, the youngest is the heir. And it's normal in Chinese culture to automatically make your oldest the heir.

Okay — I’m happy the upload finally went through, and I’m glad to see you progressing and getting the nuances of a C-drama. Your analysis is almost spot on; just a few clarifications: The old lady who approached Baoer is Qi Min’s nanny since birth. Baoer gave her false information — his real name, age, and birthday — because Yu Qian had told him to lie if a stranger asked. Qi Min is perceptive (he even says both mother and son are good at lying). He bribed one of the maidservants at Yin Xian’s restaurant to tell the truth. If you remember the episode where Qian instructed an old servant to add more locks and security, that’s the same maid. Because she’d been with Yu Qian for a long time, she knew Baoer’s real name and age. That’s why Qi Min’s nanny knelt and asked forgiveness for being fooled by a child. The maidservant was then killed. In historical C-dramas, anyone who gives intelligence often gets eliminated — generals and leaders value loyalty above all. If you can betray your owner, what’s to stop you betraying an enemy? Sui Yuanhai is the eldest and Sui Yuanqing the youngest — it’s not a mistranslation. Why wasn’t the eldest the heir? It could be related to weakness, but not entirely. The younger brother isn’t sensible; he simply respects his older brother most. Sui Yuanqing often acts recklessly to prove he, like Wei Xuan, can be as great as the Marquis (remember Xie Zheng became Marquis at 20). How did Xie Zheng and General He collaborate? Xie Zheng is known for his military strategy and was actually tutored by General He. He also has the Xie cavalry supporting him. Xie Zheng is betting that his strategy will convince General He to follow suit — similar to how he relied on Wei Xuan’s lack of military skill to ensure failure. Commander Li also suggested early on that the Marquis might still be alive, which helps General He make sense of the unfolding events. I’m glad the bulleted names/factions helped you — if you look closely at them you’ll understand everything better. 😁 Always happy to watch your reactions. I still need to catch Ald1 and Zb1’s reactions. Till next week — blessings ❤️ Yep the battle is on and we're entering the war arc. Amd oh - it was indeed a pig tongue 😅 Changyu thought to herself it looks like a human tongue.

Been waiting since yesterday😅

I'm so glad you took the time to write down the characters/clans to help you better contextualize and understand the plot. I'm literally Chinese and had so much trouble remembering names and got lost way too often, that list would have helped me LOL! Looking forward to watching this when I get off work : )

That was me that gave you wrong info. :) Sui Yuan Huai/Qi Min is older, but the 2nd son is the one who is the heir. They imply it's because Qi Min is sickly, so not fit to inherit I knew he was older when I watched this the first time on Netflix, but when I was rewatching this on another platform, the translation said that Sui Yuanqing was the "first" son, which probably just means he's the heir apparent, and nothing to do with who is older. I'm reading the novel now and Sui Yuan Huai/Qi Min is indeed the older son.

Changyu has offered to put people in a sack and beat them up multiple times in the show so far. I think this was actually pretty in character 😅 I love how ride or die these two are.

Another way that I knew Qi Min was the older brother: the younger brother actually referred to Qi Min as "big brother" in Chinese while giving orders to his subordinate ("that's my big brother's child"), but it was only translated as "brother," without the adjective. In fact, there is no Chinese word for "brother." Instead, there's a word for "older brother" and a different word for "younger brother."
