With Sofia’s back to him, Thorne indulged in thoughts of ripping open the straining fabric over her ass and sinking his cock into the hole that was waiting for him, wet and needy. No doubt Sofia would orgasm harder than she ever had before, being dicked with her head inside her safe, looking over all her money…

She set the deeds he’d brought her inside the safe before she closed it.

Sofia straightened, turned around, came back to her desk with a doctor’s leather satchel. In it, Thorne knew, was all the cash she wouldn’t trust to a bank. The money she expected him to take back to civilization, to invest, to build an empire she would never admit to.

She dropped the satchel on top of her desk like it was a load of laundry, then sat back down. “That long train ride, then a stage, then a horse to take you where the stage won’t go—it makes me wonder if you’re a cowboy or a banker.”

Thorne played at being more responsible. He flicked open the satchel, looked at the bound-up rolls of bills inside, then closed it. Even a sight like that couldn’t compete with Sofia; it shouldn’t have to. “I’m a banker who likes fresh air. And the whiskey you keep in your desk.”

Sofia grinned as she reached down for the bottle. “Do you ever wonder about me?”

“Constantly. But I’m trying to make peace with the fact that you’ll always be a mystery.”

Sofia’s smile threatened to become a laugh while she poured. “I meant do you wonder if I’m a madame or a businesswoman?”

“You’re a woman. That’s enough to think about.”

“And what do you think when you think about me?” Sofia asked, pushing his filled glass across her desk.

Thorne picked it up. “That it’s a good thing I’d have to cross half the country before I could do anything foolish with my best client.”

“And when you’ve already crossed half the country?” Sofia lilted, batting long eyelashes when he knew any other man would be faced with a gimlet gaze.

His erection swelled, but he was always at least half-hard when dealing with Sofia. “I try to be smart.”

“This is you trying to be smart?”

Thorne offered his glass. “Cheers.”

Sofia clinked hers against his. “I hope you’ll want a refill. I have a feeling you’ll be more interesting the dumber you get.”

“When you work in money, most people want you to be as boring as possible.”

Sofia made a face. “Given how endowed you are, Mr. Thorne, I don’t think I could take that much of your boring.”

Thorne chuckled. “Well, it’s not how much you can take, it’s how much I choose to give you.”

She put a hand to her heart. “Please, tell me I’ll at least get more than your feet.” Sofia laughed to herself and drank. “Did Wanda like being your footrest?”

“She liked the coin it brought her,” Thorne said with an inward shrug.

“Shame. That girl could have a lot of fun if she were into the games you like to play.”

“It’s just as well she isn’t. I don’t like mixing business with pleasure.”

“My business is pleasure,” Sofia reminded him. “And I think that before I send you on your way, you should have more fun than just making a girl your footrest.”

Thorne thought of fucking her on top of her cheap desk until the legs broke and she actually had to buy one worthy of her. “I can handle my own fun.”

“Mr. Thorne, if I can’t entertain you more than you can entertain yourself, I might as well hang up my spurs right now.”

“There are much better things you could hang up.”

“Don’t forget the money,” Sofia teased him, knowing he would never do that.

Thorne picked up the satchel and carried it with him out of the office, following Sofia down the hallway and into another room. Her bedroom.

How could he do anything but follow with Sofia’s hips swaying the way they were?

When Sofia slept, it might as well have been in Philadelphia. There was a thick Brussels carpet, rich damask drapes, Argand lamps, and a fireplace at the foot of her enormous bed. And Thorne knew how cold her feet got at night. He also knew she could find a bed warmer, even this far from Desmond’s or the Marble Palace.

He could not explain it, but he gave thought to sticking around a while, really getting Sofia straightened out in his head. Despite knowing that however well he thought he knew her, she was always waiting to spring some surprise on him.

The girl he’d seen Grimes bring in was here. She’d taken off her jacket, loosened the lacings on her dress, but she still seemed virginal. Maddeningly so, considering where she was and how Sofia was flouncing up to her.

“Hello, darling!” Sofia called, kissing her on the cheek before she looked back to Thorne along with the girl. Her gaze was smug and the girl’s look was appraising, a little nervous. Thorne was a big man. And any woman as beautiful as this one must know that a genteel man like him could be capable of much more than looking presentable.

Sofia rubbed her cheek against the girl’s. “Mr. Thorne, this is my niece Claudia. She ended up with my parents after her parents died. Then they lost all their money playing the market and now they can’t take care of her anymore. My poor, nineteen-year-old niece. So they sent her to live with me. She’s always liked me. We’re going to have so much fun together, aren’t we Claudia?”

“I don’t know, Aunt Sofia.” Claudia looked from Thorne to her aunt. “Are we?”

Sofia kissed her cheek again. Longer this time. Hard enough to leave some lipstick behind.

“She knows what you do for a living?” Thorne coughed out. Even for him, this was a bit much.

But he knew that was the idea. Sofia was challenging him, playing a game with him. And part of being in business with her was playing a good game.

It beat the hell out of golf.

Sofia patted Claudia’s hip. “Claudia’s known the truth for ages. My parents gossip horribly about me, you know. Their doll-faced daughter who left them to be a calico queen. You’ve been curious about that, yes Claudia?” Sofia’s hand ran up and down the curve of Claudia’s hip. “Getting paid to do fun things with boys all day. That’s something, isn’t it? Well, la nina, here is your first customer. And he’s going to make you wonder how you ever held onto your virginity as long as you have.”

A virgin. Thorne felt his erection swell, a warmth growing in his groin that was enough to make him sweat. “Don’t you think she might be a little… delicate… for what you’ve got in mind?”

“Nonsense! She’s a Vergara! She can take whatever you give her. Besides, I don’t want some barrel boarder to do it. Imagine what she might think of sex then. I want you to show her what she’s been missing. All of what she’s been missing.” Sofia slid behind Claudia and pulled at the lacing that held her corset shut. “Don’t go easy on her just because she’s family. She has to know it’s hard work being a soiled dove. Only worth it if you can really get yourself soiled.”

Claudia’s corset opened up. Her breasts were smaller than the ample feast of Sofia’s bust, but not by much, and the nipples were long, brown, and stiff. And it wasn’t very cold in the room.

“These look like fun, don’t they?” Sofia asked, pinching Claudia’s nipples just to show they couldn’t get any harder.

Claudia gasped, then giggled. Then fell silent looking at the bulge in Thorne’s trousers.

“That looks fun too, verdad?” Sofia whispered in her ear. “Just hold still, bambina. Think about what it’s going to feel like. Because no matter what you think, it’ll be more than you imagine…”

Sofia skinned Claudia’s dress down her body, taking her corset with it, so that all she wore was little silk bloomers from her small belly to mid-thigh. “What do you think of her legs, Mr. Thorne? Slender, no? Firm. Built to wrap around a man.”

“All women’s are,” Thorne retorted.

“But those of a Vergara woman don’t let go. Not until you give us what we really want. Come. Get a closer look. I can see you breathing hard. You know what a body that looks like this will feel like when she’s underneath you.”

“Not quite,” Thorne remarked, moving in to inspect Claudia like a wary man about to buy a horse. “But it would be nice to find out.”

Claudia’s meekness went away under his frank appraisal. Now she stood with that Vergara defiance, her hands fisted at her sides, her mouth set angrily, no doubt ready to spit a cutting remark if he didn’t give her the praise she felt was due.
