Hey ❤️

Last weekend I was out in the sun a lot and must’ve caught a good ‘ol summer cold leading to some gnarly tonsilitis. I can’t really speak without pain, so I have another idea for the listen along.

Here is the album I wanted to listen and talk with you guys about:

“Magic Spirit Quartet”

https://open.spotify.com/album/1Kcnpv8bY2lyKHqw2kJdZb?si=NKoKp3jsRsy_5ORzPFu-Kg

Can find the album on YT too!

So this is different. I definitely have mentioned it in the past before, but this really is a beautiful piece of art. I know it likely won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I urge you to listen to it with an open heart.

It’s an album I come back to when I want to just let my mind wander for a while. It’s heartfelt, and beautiful. And while I don’t understand the words, I understand where they come from.

To make this just a little more enganging, i’ll be listening to this 30 minutes after I post. I would love to hear what you think about it, and perhaps also what it made you feel. My favourite track is Annabi, so if you don’t have time for the full album, that’s the track I’d recommend.

Okay! Now back to dealing with my fever 🌱

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon, Crunchy! I have to do a really sad and hard thing tonight. Maybe I’ll be able to listen to this afterward for a smile or some better vibes.

Not the tonsillitis, dude 🙀😿 hope you're taking good care of yourself right now. Sending you many heartfelt hugs! And thanks for the rec, will definitely take a listen 💙

Mrs. Dubose

Awww, poor Crunch. Gargling with warm salt water (DON'T swallow 🤢) helps a lot. Metaphysical listening party! That works. I'll be back with thoughts later. In the meantime, rest and feel better! 💜

Acedia

Poor Crunch hope you get to feeling better soon 💙 I'm two songs in and I already have two thoughts: one, saxophones always sound good and jazzy, and two, the second half of Mrhaba sounds like straight up Spyro the dragon bgm 🤣 It's my favorite so far lol Edit* Annabi sounds so chill. I like it. And if my googling is to be trusted the title means "prophet". I wonder if someone has translated lyrics somewhere. Still, Mrhaba(Hello) is my fave just for the Spyro reason lol

Kaya

Seeing the post 32 minutes after you posted means i'm immediately on my way to listen aling with you. Hope you feel better soon Crunchy!

Vergil

Thank you so much for the recommendation. It's been a long time being able to get envolped in something new and different. I hope the cold doesn't get worse and that you'll feel right as rain soon. Sending some metaphysical soup, toddies, and sweet rest 💜💜

First of all, I hope you get better soon! It hurts to swallow but when I drink lots of water, it usually goes away a lot sooner. Second, thank you for including a YT link because I have no idea how Spotify works. You're right. The album isn't my cuppa and would probably skip it if I found it on my own but I sincerely enjoyed that! Bania is probably my favourite track out of the seven. I don't have an explanation as to why, it just speaks to me. I don't know why but I wanna listen to the album again when I read later, it's giving me strong Agatha Christie vibes. Like it's perfect for a rainy mystery thriller read especially Chahia Tabia and Aicha! Totally get why Annabi is your fave track. That was so relaxing and so soothing. Loved it! Listened to it twice before moving to the next one. Anyway, I'm not a music person so I don't have anything intelligent to share and I need people to tell me what to listen so thank you because this album is really beautiful! ☀️ Rest well and feel better! 💛

okay, long-ish comment incoming! i took the liberty of listening to Annabi like you suggested, and since the album was on shuffle, i also got to listen to Bania - will be leaving my thoughts on these two tracks first, might listen to the others in due time. Annabi is uncanny in a way that almost feels familiar - the horn makes me think of southeast-asian / african tribal folk songs (i think that's arabic i hear?), perpetual, soft, stripped down. it's not quiteee country but mentally i was like yes yeehaw almost? it felt honest, reflective, maybe that’s why it reminds me of folk tales? it’s enchanting, humble, with a stoic wisdom almost like a tale being passed down from one generation to the next - the piano is lighthearted and juxtaposes against the mellow horns and soothing humming. the rhythm is also led mostly by the bass hook, which added a lot of emotional depth. the carimba-ish instrument comes in towards the end and is haunting in the best way it’s so weird, but i feel like it’s almost an enchantment for calling upon spirits from times past and seeking their gifts. Bania has a confident air to it - it’s not quite jazz, but definitely has the typical jazz confidence infused! i feel like it’s the type of thing i can put on while i get dressed for the day. strapping on a tight skirt, a pair of heels, and strutting into the imaginary corporate office i work at where i’ll kick ass. i was surprised by the keyboard / synthesizer - definitely unexpected but it added a layer to the track that wasn’t too overbearing. unconventional, but i very much enjoyed it. tempo gets a lot faster towards the end and it’s by far my fave part of the track - i love a good percussion moment and an explosive conclusion! a confidence boost for sure. i did something scary today - i’ve wanted to do the digital nomad life for a bit, maybe do a work-stay, but the pandemic really put a stickler in my plans! today i finally put on my big girl pants and went and applied for a few things in various parts of the world! i’ve talked a lot about wanting to work remotely, but today was the first time i actually went and put in a few visa applications. once again, thank you for the recommendation crunch man :) this was fun! here’s to hoping you feel better soon, please do take the time to rest as much as you’d like and not worry too much about content. we’ll be here waiting, but your health comes first. physical or otherwise. we love your content, but we’d love even more for you to feel your best.

WOW. First track just ended. The hair on the back of my neck is standing up. I'm about to say something that makes me sound high but I promise I'm not. 😂 This music makes me feel like if I open my eyes wide enough or stare hard enough that I can see through the universe. That's the best way I can describe the feeling.

I can see why Annabi is your favorite, it feels very gentle and loving, like the way your audios make us feel. I don’t understand the lyrics either, but to me it’s like an ode to the quiet, simple moments in a relationship. I think of making coffee in the morning together, holding hands to ground each other in a crowded city, sunbathing at the park, simply existing and feeling grateful for each other’s presence when I listen to this song. Finding joy in the mundane, magic in the perpetual cycle of day to day life. It’s a beautiful piece. Second favorite would have to be Mrhaba for me. The beginning felt meditative, and it reminded me of a meditation session I went to with a friend. It was an intimidating experience for me, but ultimately an enjoyable one. But then the song switches into something more complex and rhythmic, and it doesn’t even feel like ten minutes of music because you never know where it’s going next. I may not have the most technical knowledge when it comes to music, but I can definitely appreciate a piece as detailed and complex as this one. Thanks for sharing this with us, Crunchy 💖 Annabi has been added to one of my playlists, and it’s nice to hear what kind of music speaks to you. I hope you feel better ❤️‍🩹

if anyone wants more atmospheric uplifting soft stuff to listen to as they do their chores - i really really like Port Blue's stuff, and i spent a lot of time studying to Helios back in the day. The Album Leaf is also really good. there's a track from them called Skylines that is total heart eyes whenever i need a pick-me-up.

Phantasm Cat

Oh my lord, my ears are in love. So here's a quick review of each song and each one was a wonderfully wild ride! (Pt.1) Aicha- definitely pulling the heart strings. Love the instruments sounding so chaotically in sync with each other. Moments of storms with bliss and back to storms again, but throughout the ride it felt so bittersweet and dizzying and longing. As the song played, becoming more chaotic and speeding in pace, whirling more and more in your head as if your mind is dancing along. Hassania- beginning sounds like I'm falling into a trance that I'm willing to go along for the journey. Hypnotic in the most beautiful way. Love the ticklish feeling in my ears at the end Bania- right away, groovy~ reminds me of the times I'd walk throughout the city, the mix of old in one ear and the mix of new in another (if that makes any sense) with a nice beat to go along. Some parts here remind me of a song by Shpongle, had a bit of a psychedelic Latin American kick for a few points, and oooh did it tickle! Chahia taiba- beginning, romantically melancholic. Outerworldly and trance-like. That soft transition in the middle then starting to feel implicitly dark yet still inviting, beautiful Mrhaba- starts off like an experiment, determining whether your body should move slow or fast. Trying to move slow is not fast enough, trying to move fast is too fast. Trying to keep a balance with the beat, find your center. That's how it feels. The transition really does sound like it's out of Spyro (bonus points for Acedia for noticing!) and now I'm feeling like watching a walkthrough for that nostalgia.

I sincerely hope you feel better soon and get some much deserved rest

This album made me think in photographs and imagined film landscapes, Crunchy. It makes sense to me that Annabi is your favorite. It feels like the way your breath sounds in some of your sleepy audios. Hydrate redeem, Crunchy 💜🌱💜 Thank you for sharing this with us even when you're not feeling great. I hope you recover quickly 🌼

V for Vitalya

Oh, I love ethno. I like how it's combined with jazz and a bit of blues here. Annabi doesn't sound bad, but I liked Mrhaba and Hassania better. I hope you're not allergic to honey? It is good for sore throats. Still, it sounds crazy, but a good remedy is warm beer. I remember I had a bad cough and a sore throat. And nothing didn't work. I was advised to drink warm beer and I felt better 🤣🤣🤣 Get well soon, sunshine, and have a good rest 💙

I’m open to new music and enjoy finding new favourites. My playlist is a mix of everything there is to listen. I don’t think I would find this album on my own and I appreciate you sharing it with us. I’ve listened in the morning, and I’m relistening to some tracks rn. I love music that sounds like places or even like particular cultures, which this album does sound for me. That probably explains why I liked this year's Moldova's Eurovision song so much 😅 💃🏻 Chahia Taiba is the one I liked the most. The mood and the way it sounds is simply ✨✨✨

Thanks Crunch for sharing some of your favourite music with us. It's really fun to discover new things based on the recommendation of someone else and it's even better when it's a group thing and more people can share their thoughts. Me and my friends have a movie discussion club and I've watched movies there which I would probably never pick otherwise - similarly to this album 😅 I'm not a very musical person and I don't really know how to talk about melodies, instruments and arrangements (especially in such a detailed way like you guys did in the comments above🔥), so I'll just say that I liked Balia the most for its more groovy sound 🙂 Chahia Taiba was really nice as well - a lil' bit mysterious and sad. A bit unfortunate that we didn't get to hear you ramble about it (being ill when it's warm sucks), but overall this listen-along was a really good idea of yours 😊 Hope you get well soon!

I'm not too sure how to describe the album, other than listening to it is an interesting experience. It's not something I'd normally choose to listen to but I can appreciate the composition. It's literally audio art. I'll will say though, listening to it felt like listening to the soundtrack of a movie. Aicha is the opening credits. Bania is watching the band from the bar in the jazz club. Chahia Taiba is a dusty mysterious drive through the desert to a hidden unmarked town. MSQ is the getaway drive after a heist while the end credits roll.

aiden ♡

here are my long rambly thoughts straight from my notes app lol Aicha: Slow start I really like the vocalist The pick up in the last few minutes with the gang vocals was worth it Was that a few electronic flourishes at the end??? Hassania: Reminds me of that story plot chart that looks like a hill? but like several times Bania: Cool vibes like walking through a city in a leather jacket and glasses kind of vibe Like this dude has a mission, he’s determined, he’s driven okay the beats’ picking up! we’ve got some urgency, maybe some danger even Chahia Taiba: A mid album slowdown bc we gotta give these people a minute to breathe Mrhaba: Very floaty very dreamy Amazed at how smoothly these songs develop like before I know it I’m listening to a completely different song from the beginning Annabi: This feels comforting in a way? The vocals make it nostalgic Beautiful end MSQ: the horn goin off!!!!! that’s all i got bc this one is shorter that was an experience like i went through a whole range of emotions listening to this lmao

Good morning 🌻 Thank you Crunchy for sharing music with us. Discovering new music is my favorite. Some of the songs felt very intense and overwhelming but not necessarily in a bad way. I knew which one was Annabi without looking. It's probably my favorite. I also really like Hassania and Chahia Taiba. ♥️
