You figure since your body is similar to that of the creature, it won't be a problem if you just walk past it.

Or so you thought. The faceless slime snaps its head at you and stops moving. You both share a momentary standoff before it lunges at you at blinding speed. Its jaw opens through thick slime and you get the wind knocked out of you. Then the most uncomfortable sensation washes over your body. You struggle and watch as the white rubber slime mixes with your body. Both of your pelvises merge and you feel as if someone were trying to move your legs for you. You grab the figure by its neck and hold it at bay; you feel yourself connected with the rubbery slime before you. You watch your fingers take root in its neck, causing the white to fade into a deep auburn. Whatever is happening seems like a fight for control and willpower. The glob you reside in sees fresh nutrients, an organism to siphon from. On the other end, the white rubber desires complete submission and is trying to convert you into one of its kind.

Emmett rushes in from behind and hits the figure on the head with a loose panel. He stuns it for a brief moment and you take this opportunity to grab the figure by its head. Vines extend from your arm and grab hold as it roars in retaliation. You grit your teeth and wrench its head to one side so that it is no longer on top of you. Your hand snaps off. Normally, this would call for hysteria, but the rush of adrenaline drowns your terror. The dislodged hand buries itself deep within its skull and the figure ceases all movement. You watch as roots crawl underneath its featureless face and little buds start to appear. The creature drops to the ground with a thud where it lies twitching. You push its lower torso out of yours and pat yourself down.

You catch your breath as you stare at the stub that was once your hand. The goo pulses and slowly extends out like a plant. You watch your hand reconstruct finger by finger and proceed to wiggle them as they bulge out. It feels like you never lost your hand in the first place.

"Uhh, P-Percy?" Emmett stammers.

You look over at Emmett, examining his palm. A glob landed on him as he struck the creature in the head and now it is slowly spreading. You rush over and try to wipe the goo off but it spreads around, choosing to stick to his fabric rather than your rubbery hands. You shake your head— why is this goo suddenly reacting to him but not you? You shut your eyes to think quickly; can it be that your body is looking for nutrients and growth like a plant and since Emmett's body isn't viable, it hasn't chosen to envelop him? You look down at the creature that now much more closely resembles you. Thick roots crawl underneath its now brown and purple exterior. Many of the buds have bloomed into flowers and leaves sprout over its back. You look back at Emmett's hand which has twisted and morphed into a thick, stubby hand. You fear that touching it in any way will result in your body overwhelming Emmett as it did the figure.
