Patreon in November and Beyond! (Patreon)

Hey all! You may have heard about Patreon’s little scuffle with Apple, and how that may affect certain creators on Patreon.

We’re happy to report that for our existing patrons – that means you, if you’re reading this in October of 2024 – NOTHING is changing!

Actually, almost nothing is changing at all.

Starting in November, for NEW patrons only, payments will be made upfront rather than at the end of the month.

However, this does NOT affect any current patrons – which again, includes anyone reading this in October of 2024. You will still be billed at the same time you’ve always been billed, and you will not notice any changes because there won’t be any.

The one thing to keep in mind is that starting in November, if you cancel your subscription and rejoin later, or if you upgrade tiers, you’ll have to pay upfront. (But really, that’s how it should’ve been anyway, so it’s not a big deal, we think.)

The only other note: Starting in November, anyone who joins using the iOS Patreon app will be subject to an additional fee. That’s an Apple thing that has nothing to do with us. It’s also barely worth mentioning, because we can’t imagine that anyone here actually signed up that way. (And even if you did, you’re grandfathered in and won’t have to pay more. It’s also easily avoidable for new sign-ups, who can just join via the regular Patreon site.)

The tl;dr is that pretty much nothing is changing. If you’re already here, everything stays the same. Anyone who signs up (or cancels and resubs) in November and beyond will just pay upfront.

It’s such a nominal change for us that it was hardly worth mentioning, but we wanted to be transparent, like Sue Storm or Hollow Man.

If you're curious about why this is happening, it's so Patreon can work within the confines of Apple's billing rules, and remain in their app store. We think that's the story, anyway.

Further info: If you heard about this and are wondering why others made a huge stink about it, it's because Patreon creators who operate on a per-creation model will ultimately no longer be able to do so. We never did -- ours was always the per-month model -- so we've skirted through this brouhaha without much fuss.

Hey guys, I subscribe to a lot of Patreons and you have been the only ones who care enough to send out information like this. That's really cool. I mean, it doesn't affect me because I use an Android phone, but I do appreciate how much you guys give a crap about us Patronies. Keep it up boys, your showa are always 11/10. If you had a higher tier, I'd subscribe.

I've been trying to figure out how to succinctly describe this to my patrons so it doesn't come across as a big deal so THANKS for this blueprint haha!
