Yes indeed, it's time for The Purple Stuff Podcast’s annual review of an old Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! Get set to head back to 1984!

It’s the 58th annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which aired live on November 22nd, 1984. This year marks that parade’s 40th anniversary, so it was only fitting that we’d spend an hour going completely nuts about it.

This is the oldest parade we’ve covered, and it was a reminder of how much looser the event used to be. They run a tight ship nowadays, but back then, things could get a little wonky... but usually in a good way!

Join us we marvel at everything and everyone from Scooby-Doo to the Care Bears to evil space alien lizard people. Even John Ratzenberger makes the cut!

The new episode should be on your main feeds now, but if you want the quick llnks, here it is on Apple, or Spotify, or if you prefer, here's a direct link to the MP3.

This was honestly one of the most jam-packed Macy’s Parades we've seen. If you want to watch along, it’s on YouTube in all of its grainy 480p glory. The glitches just add to the charm, we think.

But wait! There's more! On this month's bonus show for those on our $6 tier, we're going to be looking at several of the TV commercials that aired during this broadcast! Look for that episode here on Patreon tomorrow night, or Wednesday morn at latest! We picked some really great ones.

Thanks so much for your support, and we hope you dig the new episode!

I don't see a mention of Fred Travalena in the description...but even though this isn't the 89 parade I'm 1000% sure he will be mentioned. It's not Thanksgiving without Travalena. I mean, what are we really giving thanks to if we're not giving thanks to Fred Travalena as the Joker in the Macy's Day Parade.

I could not find the V float. Is there a time stamp? Thanks.

This is my birth year parade, so I can't wait to check it out!

Matts Georgia impersonation was somewhere between Edith from All in the family and Udo Dirkschneider from Accept

I feel like Matt mentions Fred Travalena a surprising amount. I know Matt and Jay have me beat by a few years, they were born into peak Fred Travalena era.

SO MANY CLOWNS. Seemed like Joey Lawrence was the low key star of this parade. He was popping up everywhere.

Thanks to this episode I’m quite sure the 1984 Macy’s Thanksgiving parade inspired the episode of Seinfeld where Mr. Pit hates the Woody Wood Pecker float 😂 Thanks guys!

I'm excited to see Jay posting more on YouTube... But why are comments turned off?!
