This was very moving. (I don't like to offer any editing things, as I've heard it's rude. If you don't mind: In page 23, in traditional grammar, it would be "you helped Dad and me". But a character can talk in a way that's not trad gram, and the "I" versus "me" (nominative versus objective case) thing is often blurry in people's actual use when there's "and" or "or". So I wouldn't blink if it remained as is.)

God you know I appreciate all of what is being said here in a realistic sense, but in my head the Political Science major in me is going "Now see this is a classic example of what happens when you build a society that requires an individual to generate very specific types of 'worth' in order to be deemed of use to society and worthy of surviving and earning enough to live. A fair and equitable society would provide for the needs of individuals in these situations by providing state benefits in order to alleviate financial stress and/or to supplant an income so that one can dedicate their time to the equally valuable task of providing for the family."

Oh boys... Lottie and Mal 😍 there so thought out as characters. I love how each one struggles with the needs of each other. Its exactly how a relationship starts and progresses.
