"You quickly throw on some clothes and grab you keys. As you go downstairs, you hear frantic smashing and chomping. Your eyes widen when you see June, lifting up the fridge and turning all of the contents inside into her gaping maw. When you enter the kitchen, she looks back at you as if nothing is wrong.
"Sorry I just feel a little hungry. Are you ready to go?"
Suddenly, an ominous gurgle comes from her stomach. Something tells me that there's going to be a few detours to fast food places before you get to the hospital."You tell June to wait right there as you run upstairs to grab your coat and keys. When you head back downstairs, you hear a ruckus and run towards the sound or crashing and things falling over. You slam the kitchen door open, worried that June has collapsed. Your eyes widen in shock. The kitchen is a mess, scraps and containers litter the floor, empty bottles and bowls and the biggest shock at the center. June, ravenously rummaging through the fridge, muttering frustrated as she tears into it like she's looking for something before yelling and, with the ease of picking up your cat she lifts the fridge and shakes it above her head like a starving man would a bag of chips, desperately wishing for even crumbs, before tossing it aside like it weighed nothing.
Fear envelops you. Your no stranger to seeing June get a bit hangry, or experiencing the monthly rage boost, But seeing her toss the fridge aside like it weighed nothing. Food messily spilled across her already tattered and disheveled form, the calm and slow way she turns to you like a wolf who just noticed an deer. It sends shivers down your spine and stirs confusing emotions and feelings.
June just stands there for a moment, with her eyes fixated on you.
"Sorry I guess I just felt a little hungry. Are you ready to go?" She asks.
You say nothing about your growing unease, simply stating you've gotten your keys and that the two of you should head out now. June slowly wipes sauce from her face, the woman who so frantic moments ago now has a cold, detached energy to her. Then, a loud sound breaks through the silence, startling you. It's the rumbling of June's swollen belly. You try to laugh it off a bit, makes sense that packed to the brim as it is that her stomach would be making noises. You have no idea what came over the normally diet conscious June to eat so ravenously, but you chalk it up to a post fight or flight reaction. You breath a breath or relief, the image of a upset June once again complaining about her weight tomorrow after getting fixed up at the hospital comes to your mind, calming you.
"Yeah, lets head out!"
"Do you mind if we make a stop on our way there?" June asks.
You think she's joking at first, but what she says next dissolves all sense of comfort from your body.
" I gotta get something to eat, I'm starving."
