Well hello, and here we are with the last days of summer before us- assuming you live in the hemisphere I do, and here's me on the cusp of a big series that I think you're going to love. (It's silk! It's going to be so much fun, I have some really neat surprises planned.)

A few notes about the video:

1. In it I say I'm wearing Deschain, but here's a link if you want one.  It's knit from Berroco Estiva, sadly discontinued.  There's lots of other options though, it's one of those sweaters that look good out of a lot of different yarns.

2. In the video I respond to someone who says that they get the emails, and see the posts, but can't see the videos.  I tell her that for some people - the videos are just showing up as a blank box, which makes those people think that they're not there, but they are, and you just have to click in the blank box like you a paragon of hopefulness, and it plays.

3. I'm writing that here because I realized that it's super dumb to tell a person who can't see the videos how to see the videos in a video.  This makes more sense.

4. I think I didn't do a great job of explaining why the mohair would go further in a project than the merino would - there's lots of reasons that I list there, but if you imagine both yarns being bent around a needle together, it might make more sense. The merino has more heft and resistance to bending. When we wrap it around the needle it makes a robust, resilient curve that takes... let's say it takes 6mm. (I made that up as an example.  Now imagine the limp and soft mohair/silk that's being carried along. It doesn't have that robust nature, wrapped around the needle it clings to it, effectively making a smaller loop. Let's say that takes 4mm.  Think of it like the inside or outside of a curve on a track.  One is just a little farther than the other.

2mm might not seem like much of a difference, but let's say there's 150 stitches in a round. That means it takes 300mm less per round of the mohair - that's 30cm per round. See where I'm going with that? Over the course of a sweater, that tiny difference per stitch really adds up!

I've got another video coming shortly - in the morning I think. I know I told you that we'd do silk next, and we will, but I have a sweater that needs fixing, and I filmed it.

Fondly,

Stephanie

I'd love to see a series on seaming--and perhaps even on best practices for finishing more generally. Your earlier best practices series had so many useful tips that I can only imagine how much my seaming and finishing could be improved.

Your "harlot" cred is affirmed - pls accept this with the kindest interpretation, that of a teasing sister ;-)
