People on the patreon were very excited about this release already... time to meet the Vulpine!

The Vulpine don’t have grand empires, a shattered golden age, or a divine origin myth. Their story isn’t loud. It isn’t glorious. It’s a simple, yet effective one.

The Vulpine are foxfolk who spread not through conquest, but through one opportunity at a time. They thrive in existing systems rather than breaking them through their smarts and cunning!

This release also introduces three distinct subraces:

Fayxen, the classic red fox archetype, grounded and rough-edged.

Kitsune, refined social navigators with a natural gift for illusion magic.

Tulikko, rare northern vulpine with aurora-shimmering tails.

Enjoy!

I like the race and art quite a bit! I do have one tiny nitpick about the Tulikko subrace, however. While being able to cast their racial spells as a bonus action is very neat, it does feel like it's somehow missing something, like it should have an additional minor ability or something unrelated to the spells or altering one of them in some way. Not to say it's bad as is, it just feels like there's a tiny bit of space for something there that leaves me wanting more, like, maybe a modification to make Dancing Lights do something in addition to being a light source, whether that be something combat-related, or something like a bonus to a skill while they're active or something (advantage or a small bonus to Performance, for example). Beyond that, I do quite like how the race turned out!

I get what you mean. The pattern is right there after all and I originally had the intention of adding a little bit more to the Tulikko. But after deliberating it felt like what she had was enough because casting Faerie Fire as a bonus action is just... very strong. So i felt there was not enough design space left on her. BUT! I will add the stuff I originally had intended for her in the unique feat that will come out (along with the other feats) next week. So that should hopefully round out her package.

Very fair, Faerie Fire as a bonus action is pretty good! I'm looking forward to seeing the Feats when they come out, then, and good work as always! Your stuff is something I always look forward to!

Hey as someone who bought the race directly (mainly cause I couldn't afford the subscription) will this post get updated to include the feats as well? Or will I have to wait until I can buy those separately?

Nevermind I just downloaded the new file, my apologies

Yes, i can assure you that whenever a Monster Girl release comes that it will get a follow up release on the next week with more content. That will typically be exclusive feats + the pin-up artwork~

Im not going to lie, as someone who loves lore. I was really hyped for the Vulpin lore but I'm not really a fan of it. No empires? No lost dynasty or descendants? Not at all related or has anything to do with or referencing Japanese, Korean, or Chinese mythos? They're just...fox people? The fox race of all races could have had something huge going for them but they seem a bit too generic for my liking. And while Kitsune (appealwise) fit the vibe I was looking for...their lore just isn't doing it for neither. They're Kitsunes where's the ties to Japanese Mythology, the deities, kami, the legends? And why do they have Minor Illusion and not a druid ability like Change Shape, it's more lore accurate being able to go from Fox form, human(ish) form, or turn into others? I really recommend Change Shape than Minor Illusion or replace Disguise Self with Change Shape... They could have been mystical, fantastical even!...but they lack the very thing I find so cool about Fox races. Of couse I suppose that could just be me. 😓 The art for them is stellar though. Artist pulled through. Maybe at least they could have all been descendants...something.

"The Vulpine don’t have grand empires, a shattered golden age, or a divine origin myth. Their story isn’t loud. It isn’t glorious. It’s a simple, yet effective one." DM TUZ...those parts are the BEST parts about Fox Races, man! I don't mean to disrespect or anything, you put a lot of time and effort into making them and I happily pay/support them. Just wish you made/left some elements of what makes their heritage so dang awesome. Just gotta do it myself, it's Homebrew time!👘📚📖🖊📝

It's completely fine if you have your own take for these. But from my point of view having a species that specifically exists in and around communities of others seemed appealing to me, especially when I thought of their intrinsic cunning and opportunism. This also means that they just don't have grand or epic histories but instead inspiring tales of single personalities that have staying power. Folk tales of trickster characters like Reynard the Fox, Till Eulenspiegel, or Odysseus are what the Vulpine would be most known for. So it's less about legacies but more about memorable individuals.
