Dee sitting on a whole ass throne looks just right 😭

Cam.

Hi Dee, looking good as usual. They were serving vocals!

Mr. Squidward

Musicals are usually hit or misses for me but I really enjoyed Wicked and I’m excited for part 2!! It’s definitely in my top 3 movies of 2024 along with the Substance with Demi and Smile 2 with Naomi. And the 2 songs they sang in the beginning were songs from the wizard of oz and the wiz.

Donnie

The first two songs aren’t from wicked 😭

Yusuf

we appreciate you keeping the content going even out the country seriously!!

Trevion

Cynthia played Harriet in the Harriet movie. She really showed her vocal ability in her song “Stand Up”. That lady can BLOW‼️

sam

She was on the movie Harriet playing Harriet Tubman and singing the theme "Stand up"

Kendall

The mixture of oz adaptations>>>>

JoJo

dee i’ll provide some context for you lmaoo 😭 the first song was “somewhere over the rainbow” from the original wizard of oz. the second song was “home” from the wiz. essentially they were paying homage to the films that came before wicked. cynthia actually rose to fame in the theater community before this for playing celie in the color purple on broadway, where she won a tony, a grammy, and an emmy for that performance alone. there are actually performances of it on youtube its insane. if she would’ve won at the oscars, she would be an EGOT. she was actually a superstar in the broadway community before this, so the film has actually exposed her to a whole new audience. wicked itself is also a massively popular broadway play that has been playing for many years, well over 20 i believe, which is why so many people were geeked about the film. if you made it to the end of this then congratulations 😭

Imani Anderson

Their vocals brought me to tears it was sooo good!! You definitely have to have seen the musical to really enjoy the song but this was a great performance

Chet Kincaid

This was thee moment of the entire show. Cynthia was in the Broadway version of “The Color Purple” then moved onto onscreen acting.

Josh Middleton

Such a beautiful performance! Made me tear up a bit!

BNH

Dee, as you said, this performance holds a lot of weight and meaning for those of us who grew up watching the Wizard of OZ/The Wiz and have seen Wicked both on stage and on film. As you said, the songs themselves are very much musical theatre showtunes. The Disney song 'LET IT GO' was based o Defying Gravity. Idina Menzel sang both. So that's where the Disney feel comes from. Also really loved the way Ari looked at Cynthia.

Samantha Desruisseaux

I agree with the henna tattoos. I understand when it’s for a cultural event (weddings, Eid, etc…) and the person is West African and all the other cultures that call for it but otherwise I just think it’s very odd. 😭

Samantha Desruisseaux

Dee’s comments remind me of the era in YouTube when every time someone would drop a song, some « vocal coach » would always be reacting to it talking about breath control and voice range. 🤣

Justine

I knew nothing about wicked prior to the movie coming out so I have no connection to defying gravity as far as growing up with it but there's something about Cynthia and Ariana singing it whether it be this performance or the movie it makes me tear up a bit😂. It's sad neither one of them one their Oscars, I definitely think they should have it would have been well deserved.

Headytrips

lol paused the YouTube video to come here

Christian

“She about to cry again” 😂

Tom

I’m so glad you reacted to this. I didn’t know if this would be your thing because I know you’re not into musicals that much. Their voices blend soo well together

Aftab

I feel like their performance wasn’t even that good, Doja and Lisa did better

fry

defying gravity is also considered to be one of the hardest songs to sing on broadway (though cynthia said it was not the hardest song she’s ever sung but she’s obviously very talented😭)

clarence.

CHILLS and goosebumps every time Cynthia sings. 🔥🤌🏾✨ Also I REALLY dont get how people can compare Doja Cat's performance to this. They sang a different song??? Are you dumb??? make it make sense please😂😂😂😂 Also Doja sounded ''meh'' she even said it herself on her insta. Why even comment if you are talking about a totally different subject🤡

....

Thank you for uploading on your patreon ❤️🥰 Lawwrd this week has been super draining.

CeCe

All I know about Cynthia is that she sung Stand Up and that's where my knowledge starts and ends

Hugo

Girl Why is that NOT henna… thats Ariana’s tattoos they just ugly LOL

Amenra Malone

Dee I’m very grateful for this community and grateful for your vids. Especially knowing how much effort and time this probably takes from you. I have very bad anxiety and this community and your videos are what helps me get by and is very therapeutic for me. The laughs, everything about this community you’ve built and your videos. So I just want to say thank you for what you do and I really appreciate everything that you do for us. Much love 🙂

So Cynthia is a singer and has a musical theater background and her voice is just amazing, acting came later. She got her big break when she played Celie in the Broadway production of The Color Purple. Listening to that woman sing brings me to tears pretty often, honestly. This song is good and all but her vocals on emotional songs are just..next level chile lmao

𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐣𝐮𝐤𝐢

Cynthia is mainly a actress on broadway i beiieve in Harriet, The Color Purple, and is just an Oscar away from an EGOT, she was robbed at the Oscars tbh

Hugo

Cynthia played harriet tubman!!

Cameron Brown

Their voices are so unique on their own, but blend so well together ughh i can’t wait for part 2😂

Daviiii

Wow, I almost cried 😂😭

aerih

this reminds me dee, if you end up watching the substance (demi moore’s movie) let us know what you thought about it cause it’s a wild movie! but very good

Rainbow

This performance was amazing. I lost count of how many times I watched it.

DJ ZAZU

Sup Dee! This is kind of a random question but what’s your favorite “Dee Shanell compilation” that you’ve watched?
