I feel bad because I’ve been a fan of J Cole for a long time but i just can’t get with this album. I can appreciate his lyricism and the story behind it but I’m highly disappointed . It does not have as much replay value as the other albums. I really don’t see how anyone thinks this is his best album. Like he took 10 years to come out with this?

I can understand this perspective, especially considering how long he’s been working on it. I get people expecting absolute greatness from an artist working on something for 10 whole ass years lol I also think a lot of people saying this is his best album has a bit of recency bias. Because it’s new and exciting people want to put it on a pedestal.

For me, it does. I remember Cole also talking in between songs at the show to narrate the process of making each song, where his head was, etc. which really added to the music for me and made me appreciate his songs more. So in his case, absolutely

ive listened to the album like 7 times through reactions and i've liked it each new listen. i'm not even a cole fan but I tuned in for the one time since he's claiming its his last album and stuff...im very surprised, it's also telling for me that i can listen to some of the songs on their own without the album and the story and still feel them as individual tracks. Even though I havent listened to all his albums I can understand why he said this was his best work, great albums grow on you and have replay value, i think he definitely has that with this album!

I’d have to agree w/ you on Cole’s top three albums. I’ll be going to his concert and taking my niece w/ me. I’ve seen him twice but this will be her first time. I’ll be at his first show so I won’t know the setlist which sucks but it should be fun.

He was doing a trunk sell across the country for the fall off,he was driving that old civic and it broke down in Az while he was on his way to Cali lol
