Lucy, Theo, Andrew, and Ben bring you: The all-too-familiar experience of eating at Subway in Tokyo, a good deed from a band of yesteryear, and something that's either hysteria or something to genuinely be worried about.

I haven't heard the episode yet but I read title to the tune of Johnny Cash - Hurt and I'm already having a good time

Sort of Scorpion

Not sure why you are second guessing the episode quality. I feel like i got my money’s worth.

Napoleon quote is unfortunately apocryphal

Lol in America a half weed half tobacco joint is called a spliff and mostly we don't do it but everywhere else I've been in the world people have smoked spliffs

Anya Hanley

I thankfully quit but yeah after a couple years of really heavy weed smoking I was puking, like, daily. Really helped with the quitting!

Ellen

Had the same thought as Big T vis-a-vis the Chun-Li sandwich one second before he said it

Shawn Browne

'The Wandering Eye' could have been a better title.

Bryan Zeck

very disappointed that Blanka isn't an option

I've had a few bouts of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. Fucked up shit. Also the reason we smoke spin is a) we have more of a european influence where they only had hash so had to use tobacco and b) they don't really have pouches in the US so having loose tobacco is not as much of a thing

Like... A week of not being able to eat anything and vomiting if I drink more than a thimble of water

One theory is that you build up a tolerance in the brain so the nausea suppressant action of THC stops working and the nausea causing action in the stomach takes over

The weed sickness is definitely aggregate pesticides

Taking me back to my school days smoking dirty hash with tobacco from the cheapest cigarettes. Like grating your throat.

Weed in Japan is the forbidden delight. I once got some from a tattoo artist my friend was apprenticing under, and had the biggest most wonderful bowl of stamina ramen of my life. Afterwards we walked through the rice fields and listened to the sounds of Summer.

Some of the newer research suggests cannabis hyperemesis is an immune reaction to THC. It really sucks since it takes forever to get fully out of your system and it seems irreversible, as in if you smoke again it comes back fullbore. For some reason less chance to develop it with edibles over smoked. Everyone in the US emergency medicine community is very familiar with CHS, so much so there is a specific word for the way the patients sound like when they come in: scromiting, for scream-vomiting, for the particular timbre of their emesis. Easily treated in the acute setting but difficult to manage.

Goo Goo Dolls put on a hell of a concert too.

Last year the labor union around here that represents the greenhouse workers in the grow houses for legal cannabis was telling me that they've been trying to get elected officials to come visit a facility and talk to the workers because they're using very harsh chemicals all day to grow it indoors (necessary for climate reasons and because it's still illegal to move across state lines). I wonder if that has any effect on the people putting the cannabis in their bodies constantly for years. It doesn't sound great to me! And as for illegal weed, literally who knows what's in that in terms of applied chemicals or heavy metals from the soil

As someone who in the last few yrs got back into my love of fall out boy, really enjoyed the opening gameshow Lucy

Sarah Burt

Ah my friend has CHS! He vomited 8 times an hour for more than three weeks and had to be hospitalized, and now he can't smoke weed at all or it'll happen again, super freaky

My partner had a bout over the summer. A break helped, now we just have to be mindful of their use. It can be pretty serious they were really sick for like a month.
