Hello Dear Patrons,

This week Andrew and Lucy will be bringing you their first new movie review in quite some time!

But we'd also love to hear from you about your favourite dumb movies for idiots. Which movie makes you laugh like a donkey on nitrous oxide?

We'd like to hear about your guilty pleasures, the movies you find hard to defend and the ones you love going to bat for.

DivX Greg

Southland Tales is my favourite movie to watch and feel like a big dumb bitch

siberianpine

Hackers 1994 is the dumbest shit but every single main character is a nonbinary icon and I will bat for it hard

Jules Wang

Jupiter ascending is a gem. basically watching a hunk playing a dog in scifi scenarios for like 2 hrs but somehow insanely enjoyable.

Danny Stainview

The Patriot staring Mel Gibson is The Shooter of historical action films

Patrick Litten

Please can you do the intensely weird and problematic White Chicks, a key aspect of understanding 00s comedy

WeeMadAndo

Miami Vice is the best movie Michael Mann has made.

Patrick Litten

This is tremendous news, and something I will likely do immidiately

WeeMadAndo

Related - can we look at Evolution and just lean back and go "wow"?

Sathias

The best dumb film of all time is 1989 film "UHF". Extremely quotable, and all the stupid satire you would expect from Weird Al.

Hackers rules. Along with Jonny Mnemonic and Lawnmower Man, that's an evening steeped in gleaming early 90s cyber-nonsense

siberianpine

It's so much better than people online had led me to expect

Kitty Germein

The Godzilla remake with brian cranston. I saw it in the cinema with a group of friends and whenever godzilla charged up his atomic beam thing we all just sat there yelling “OHHHHH SIIICK”

Lucas Miller

We jokingly started watching Batman Forever and alternated between laughing and cringing

Hannah Rule

Hotrod is the one movie I can watch again and again. I’m not sure if it qualifies as a good or bad movie, but I can never go past it.

Robert De Lisle

Fateful Findings by Neil Breen. Watching it has a Videodrome-like effect

Sean Kelly

Highlander, the perfect bad/ good 80s film

timbo

Freddy got fingered. Tom Green is a genius/dumb idiot

WeeMadAndo

Definitely rate this film above Pacific Rim. Which I did not rate.

WeeMadAndo

Grosse Point Blank - is it actually as good as I think?

My favourite dumb movie is GRUNT! THE WRESTLING MOVIE. It's an 80-minute mockumentary about a wrestler called Mad Dog Joe de Curso who goes underground after he decapitates his opponent in the ring. A film director goes looking for him and gets stonewalled by a parade of bizarre idiots who are vying for the throne that Mad Dog left behind. Ostensibly we're on the trail with him but it devolves into a bunch of wrestling matches set to bad music, a couple of which are in magnificently bad taste, like pitting a full-sized man against a quartet of squealing midgets. Last thing I want to mention is that it has an incredible theme song that is mostly a guy singing the characters' names. Please enjoy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-L-uSZ8pKMU

Witnessed by his baller move of turning up to the Raspberry awards with his own red carpet so he could accept his Worst Movie award in person

Simon Anlezark

One of my favourite bad movies is 1984’s Scream for Help. It’s directed by Michael Winner, the maniac responsible for all of the Death Wish films, and it’s about a high school girl who comes to suspect her stepfather is trying to kill her and her mother to get their money. It plays like a perverted, foul-mouthed Nancy Drew story, and asks the question: should the director of the Death Wishes make a film that explores the sexuality of a teen girl? The answer is no.

'Stone Steve' Cold Austin

Anyone who hates the American Ninja movies needs to depart from my presence immediately. Additionally Enter the Ninja and Revenge of the Ninja. I don't remember exactly which one it was, but one of them features the good guy learning about who the bad guy actually is and responding with "He wouldn't do that! He's an American!"

Frimaire

I think basically all of Neil Breen's movies are great to watch with a group of people, especially Fateful Findings. They're all insane vanity movies where he stars/writes/directs/caters/etc so he can be in a movie that's all about how he's the coolest, most important guy in the universe. In Fateful Findings he plays a computer hacker turned famous author who discovers "factual documents" and "supporting truths" about corrupt corporations and governments. Also he has magical powers because of a rock he found as a kid. It's much less coherent than it sounds. The term "it's like it was made by aliens" gets thrown around a lot, but it truly seems like Breen has no idea how human beings behave.

I genuinely would love to be a fly on the wall of his set

Jakeb Sparke

I am convinced that Shrek 2 is genuinely a comedic masterpiece, AND that Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is probably one of the top 3 Star Wars movies

Murray Figg

Zombie Brigade shot in country WA is one the best movies ever made. Please watch

Robert

Have any of you seen McConaughey's Serenity? Though this is probably recency bias, it is the most upsettingly bad movie I have ever seen. If no one has, please do and confirm this.

Alanna

If you're all still doing this - the core was weirdly fantastic despite it's shittiness. it made me develop a crush on stanley tucci so there's that.

Jess C

I dont defend it at all but I have watched The Bratz live action movie more times than i can keep track of and my only rrason is that it is outrageously offensively awful and lame and from all of my years searching for the worst teen movie I think it is the clear winner. It includes a good fight and ends in a song and dance number about having "brattitude"
