demo 102: I wanna be friends (Patreon)

hello gang - here's a fun one for u! really proud of this one. well, it's kind of fun.. it's bouncy + emotional, a dangerous combo.

lyrically this one is pretty straight-up, no mysteries here. I'm enjoying very literal lyrics at the moment? I think they're brave & can be pokey in the right kind of way. that said I'm also obsessed with Adrienne Lenker's lyrics lately which are a lot more abstract & poetic, so I'd like to try writing something like that soon too.

something fun happened when I recorded this demo - I had a rare & beautiful moment of looking back and assessing how far I've come. I remember about a year or so ago all I wanted to be able to do was hop on the little borrowed drum kit in my studio & be able to jam along & track something in one take. they didn't have necessarily to be the final drums on a song (properly engineering drums is a whole thing), I just wanted to be able to express myself on the drums & not spend loads of time programming drum loops & editing them in logic (I am slow at this and I have v little patience). I feel this is the first demo I've really done that on! 3 takes of figuring the part out & I could track it all in one go. it was really satisfying to look back & feel like I'd achieved a musical goal :')

obviously a BIG WEEK AHEAD IN CAMP O.G. - ALBUM 2 IS OUT THIS FRIDAY 4TH !!!!!!!!! expect many album updates and HEAVY PROMO for here on out <3I hope you'll join me in spreading the word over the next few weeks and I'm sure I'll see some of you at the UK/Ireland instore tour, starting this friday in Kingston : ) tickets for some shows still avail (buy a CD/vinyl thru the record store for show entry). so excite to play for u + sign your records + generally see some of u IRL on this momentous week
