Hey gang! Hope you're good.

I've been sat at my lil' recording desk this morning, sipping a smoothie while the london sun I've ever seen (say wha) cuts through the blinds. Your May demo is sounding sweet and I'm super excited to put it up early next week.. I think I've got the final guitars and lead vocal down now, I just need some time here and there over the weekend now to sit with it and tweak, embellish it with a few harmonies and such. It's a love song, which is super silly rare for me, but in the wake of everything that happened in Manchester this week I didn't want to write something angry or sad, I wanted to focus on happier feelings - even if trying felt like squeezing toothpaste out of an almost-empty tube.

I don't think I fully understood the term 'heavy heart' before this week. Myself and pretty much everyone I've spoken to this week just seems to be carrying one around; good times feel bittersweet knowing there are families just a couple hundred miles away suffering so, so hard. A BBC radio DJ called Greg James tweeted this out Tuesday morning, and it resonated with me like crazy:

"If you're laying there not wanting to get up because of this horrific tragedy, hate wins. Get up, spread love, be kind and help if you can."

That's all I want to do. . that's all I feel I can do. I can do my best to make things feel lighter for those around me, to spread and amplify any joy I've got inside me. I can get up and write, I can lay things out and set up a future where I can finally go out and sing to people, sing songs that really bloody mean something.

So I wrote a love song. It's all I want to pour out right not. My mum & sister are coming over to visit London and stay with me this weekend and I know i'll feel so lucky to be around family. I want to make sure they know how much I love them, even with a bloody ocean between us most of the time. I want my friends to know how great they are. I want all of you to know how awesome you are, all of you! Even when I go quiet on here I'm constantly thinking about how grateful I am for you being here, lending silly jokes & kind words, listening to me ramble on (like right now). Seriously, thank you. Stay as hopeful and happy as you can.

ALL MY LUV

A great comment by the radio DJ. In these times of horror, when every effort to create meaning seems useless, we all have the chance to spread the collective love we have. One little good deed at a time. But we need to get up for that. Hope you have a good time with your family! Mic.

I understand every word you are saying! My thoughts are with all the victims, families and their friends. The only thing that you can do is spread some love and kindness, and don't stop being yourself and having fun. We won't let fear win! A love song, whoa, lets have it then! Have a lovely weekend with the family, and keep on rocking.

People need artists to give expression to their feelings. By becoming vulnerable and expressing your own feelings in the songs you write, you enable those who hear your songs to do the same. That's why the Arts in general are so important to the emotional health of a society... and that's also why you and your songs are so important. Looking forward to the demo :-)
