demo no56: I won't stop you (Patreon)

HEY SECRET DEMO CLUB! proud to hand over your November demo, a song called 'I won't stop you' (or 'change your mind', can't decide). one of my friends is moving half way across the world soon and her housemate, another friend of mine is putting up a FIRM FRONT and (like I often do) pretending not to be phased by the whole thing. this is something I do a lot in friendships, to avoid being seen as clingy.. act almost overly aloof/detached in order to protect myself. lol but inside I'm like NOOOOooOooOOOO

I wrote this with Nathan who also worked on the production of 'pretending' - that's his voice you'll hear in there. it was fun writing a song in 7/8! (or 7/4?) - it started as more of a challenge than anything, like a school exercise to see if we could do it. alongside oh GOD in 5/4 I can add it to my pile of songs in weird time sigs. fellow music geeks know what I'm on about but for everyone else all this means is THE TIMING IS WEIRD and it makes it quite angular and weird to groove to.. but in a way that I love! as a writer  it's super rewarding and fun to try something different. (pssst - there's another 5/4 song on my album, woo). I may make a playlist soon of my all time favourite songs in weird time signatures!
